‘Patience’ renewed for Season 3 on Channel 4 with extended 10-episode run

by Dave Elliott

Channel 4 has confirmed that Patience will return for a third series, with filming set to begin in March across Belgium and York. The renewal comes after a very strong second run, which has become the channel’s most-watched show of the year so far across both linear TV and streaming.

The launch episode of Series 2 pulled in an average audience of 4.2 million viewers across all screens, with big-screen viewing up 18% on the first series. That success has clearly paid off, as the broadcaster has ordered an extended third season made up of ten episodes.

The drama once again follows autistic criminal records archivist Patience, played by Ella Maisy Purvis, as she continues working with the City of York Police. After the friction and eventual friendship that developed between Patience and DI Frankie Monroe in the second series, the new run sees the pair firmly established as close colleagues, with Jessica Hynes returning to the role.

Series 3 will also push Patience into more personal territory. Alongside taking a new step in her romantic life, she begins building a relationship with her estranged half-sister Joy while reopening questions around her father’s death. What appeared to be a fatal car crash may not be as straightforward as it first seemed.

Returning cast members include Nathan Welsh, Mark Benton, Adrian Rawlins, Tom Lewis, Ali Ariaie and Liza Sadovy.

Polly Scates, Head of Acquisitions at Channel 4, said the show has “captured the hearts of our viewers” and teased more to come from Patience’s investigations in York. Eagle Eye Drama’s Jo McGrath added that the series has become the eighth most streamed show across all platforms midway through its run, underlining its growing international appeal.

The series is produced by Eagle Eye Drama and directed once again by Maarten Moerkerke, alongside Jan Matthys. The show is adapted from the French drama Astrid & Raphaëlle and is distributed internationally by Beta Film, with PBS Distribution holding North American rights.

Patience’ Season 3 does not yet have a premiere date, but will air on Channel 4 in the UK. If I want to keep track of this or any other shows, I can add them via our Never Miss system, and I’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
