‘Dalziel and Pascoe’ is being reimagined for a new generation, with Kerry Godliman and Nina Singh stepping into the iconic detective roles for a fresh, contemporary take commissioned by BritBox, with ITV on board as UK broadcast partner.
The new six-part drama is based on the novels by Reginald Hill, and flips the classic pairing into a female-led partnership. The series centres on seasoned Detective Inspector Andrea Dalziel, played by Kerry Godliman (After Life, Trigger Point, Whitstable Pearl), and newly qualified, by-the-book Detective Sergeant Paige Pascoe, played by Nina Singh (Virdee, Art Detectives).
Despite their clashing styles and outlooks, Dalziel and Pascoe are forced to work together, gradually forming a formidable partnership underscored by humour, heart, and humanity.
Speaking about taking on the role, Kerry Godliman said:
“I’m so chuffed to be playing the assertively charming Detective Inspector Andrea Dalziel. It’s a juicy role as she’s such an interesting personality – accomplished at her job, warm, but also direct to the point of being abrasive. Weary and warm hearted. Lots to get my teeth into! I’m looking forward to working with the team at West Road Pictures, ITV and BritBox as we reimagine Dalziel and Pascoe to a new audience.”
Nina Singh added:
“It’s an absolute honour to be playing Pascoe to Kerry Godliman’s Dalziel. I find Kerry hilarious, so I know at times I’ll struggle not to be laughing. Colette Kane and the writing team have incorporated humour so well into the scripts at the same time as keeping you constantly guessing what’ll happen next – in true Dalziel and Pascoe form.”
The series is co-created for television by Colette Kane (Department Q, Vera) and Daisy Martey (Vikings: Valhalla), with additional scripts from writing duo Chris Ryden and Jon Rowe, alongside Danusia Samal (Gangs of London, Bodies). Kane also serves as lead writer and executive producer.
Production comes from West Road Pictures, part of All3Media, with Jonathan Fisher, Ellie Birnie, and Ingrid Goodwin executive producing. The drama will be directed by Isher Sahota (Run Away, Missing You) and produced by Juliet Charlesworth (Happy Valley, After the Flood).
ITV’s Polly Hill and Nana Hughes have overseen the project on behalf of the broadcaster, with Hughes commenting:
“Dalziel and Pascoe with a female-led cast is what caught our eye on this one. Kerry Godliman and Nina Singh will bring a fresh perspective to the series.”
The original television adaptation of Dalziel and Pascoe, starring Warren Clarke and Colin Buchanan, ran for 12 series between 1996 and 2007 and became one of British television’s most successful crime dramas.
Filming on the new series is set to begin in spring 2026 in the North of England, with All3Media International handling global distribution.
