First ‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ Photos Released As Shemar Moore Spin-Off Shops For A Home

by Dave Elliott

The first images have landed for S.W.A.T. Exiles, the new spin-off from ‘S.W.A.T.’, bringing Shemar Moore (Criminal Minds) back into tactical gear as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson.

The 10-episode drama has already completed production, but finds itself in a rather unusual position. It does not currently have a broadcaster in either the US or the UK. Sony Pictures Television, which owns the franchise and produced the original series for CBS in the States, opted to make the show independently and is now shopping it to the highest bidder.

That means it could realistically land anywhere.

In the UK, Sky would seem the most obvious home given their track record with big US procedural dramas. However, a global streamer such as Netflix could also swoop in and take it worldwide. In the US, it is similarly open. Any network or streaming platform could pick it up, depending on who sees the most value in continuing the franchise.

Sony has form for this approach. The studio followed a similar model with ‘Alex Rider’, which was produced independently before eventually finding a home on Amazon.

The official logline for ‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ reads:

“After a high-profile mission goes sideways, Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson is pulled out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance, experimental S.W.A.T. unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits. Hondo must bridge a generational divide, navigate clashing personalities, and turn a squad of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city and saving the program that made him who he is.”

Joining Moore as series regulars are Ronen Rubinstein (9-1-1: Lone Star), Freddy Miyares (When They See Us), Lucy Barrett (Charmed), Zyra Gorecki (La Brea) and Adain Bradley (All American).

Familiar faces will also return. Jay Harrington (Better Off Ted), Patrick St. Esprit (The Hunger Games), and David Lim (Quantico) are set to guest star, reprising their roles from the original series. Lenora Crichlow (Bel-Air) recurs, while Selma Blair (Cruel Intentions) and Jerry O’Connell (Billions) also appear as guest stars.

Jason Ning (Lucifer) serves as showrunner and executive producer. Kevin Tancharoen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) directed the pilot episode. Executive producers also include Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Shemar Moore, James Scura and Jon Cowan.

There is currently no confirmed broadcaster or premiere window for ‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ in either the US or the UK.

S.W.A.T. Exiles’ does not yet have a premiere date, but we’ll let you know when it finds a broadcaster. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
