HBO has released the first teaser trailer for ‘House Of The Dragon’ Season 3, and it makes one thing abundantly clear. The Dance of the Dragons is about to erupt into full-scale war.
The new footage leans heavily into the events teased at the end of Season 2, with the long-awaited Battle of the Gullet and the looming invasion of King’s Landing firmly on the horizon. Fleets gather. Dragons circle. Armies prepare for bloodshed. After two seasons of political manoeuvring and shifting alliances, the gloves are very much off.
Season 2 ended with the Greens and the Blacks moving into position for some of the most significant events in George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood. Rhaenyra secured three new dragonriders, Daemon pledged his loyalty and forces, the Triarchy agreed to assist the Greens in breaking Corlys’ blockade, and Alicent and Rhaenyra edged ever closer to open confrontation. It was less a finale and more the lighting of a very large fuse.
Showrunner Ryan Condal has previously described the Gullet as potentially the biggest action sequence the series has attempted so far, noting the sheer scale involved in bringing it to life. With the resources required for construction, armour, costumes and visual effects, the creative team opted to give the battle the time and space it deserved. If this teaser is anything to go by, that patience may well pay off.
There has also been off-screen drama surrounding the adaptation. Fire & Blood author and executive producer George R.R. Martin publicly voiced concerns about certain story choices in Season 2, particularly around the “Blood and Cheese” storyline and the omission of Maelor from the series so far. As ever with Westeros, politics are never confined to the screen.
While HBO has not released an official Season 3 cast list, the core ensemble is expected to return, including Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Tom Glynn-Carney and Ewan Mitchell. Given where the story currently stands, viewers can expect alliances to fracture, loyalties to be tested and several dragons to be deployed with extreme prejudice.
It has also been confirmed that the saga will conclude with Season 4, bringing this chapter of Targaryen history to a definitive end.
‘House Of The Dragon’ Season 3 does not yet have a premiere date, but will air in June 2026 on Sky Atlantic and HBO Max in the UK.
