‘Crystal Lake’: ‘Friday the 13th’ Prequel Gets October UK Premiere On Sky & NOW

by Dave Elliott

Sky has confirmed that ‘Crystal Lake‘, the new prequel series expanding the ‘Friday the 13th’ universe, will arrive in the UK and Ireland this October. And if your idea of a cosy autumn evening involves a trip to one of horror’s least reassuring holiday destinations, there’s good news: all eight episodes will be available at launch.

Produced by A24, the series stars Linda Cardellini (‘DTF St. Louis’, ‘Dead To Me’) as Pam Voorhees, a single mother whose grief sits at the centre of a disturbing new story. Brad Caleb Kane, whose credits include ‘It: Welcome to Derry’, ‘Tokyo Vice’ and ‘Warrior’, serves as creator, writer, executive producer and showrunner.

The story picks up almost a year after Pam’s young, sickly son Jason tragically drowned in the town lake. She has been unable to shake the loss, but her life takes another unsettling turn when two strangers arrive at her door and begin digging into her past.

Their appearance sets a disturbing chain of events in motion, leaving the residents of Crystal Lake asking a question that will presumably become increasingly uncomfortable to answer: just who is Pam Voorhees?

It’s a premise that puts Pam firmly in the spotlight, with the mystery surrounding her life driving the series. The franchise name will understandably have plenty of viewers thinking about Jason, but the starting point here is his mother, the death of her son, and the secrets those unexpected visitors begin to uncover. A doorstep conversation has rarely sounded less welcome.

Sky describes the series as blending psychological suspense, mystery and emotional storytelling, while expanding the mythology of one of horror’s most enduring franchises. That gives ‘Crystal Lake’ an interesting hook: there’s the familiarity of the ‘Friday the 13th’ name, but also a central story built around grief and the townspeople’s growing uncertainty about someone in their midst.

For longtime fans, the promise is a chance to spend more time exploring the world surrounding the Voorhees family. For anyone coming to it fresh, the announced synopsis offers a straightforward starting point: a bereaved mother, two strangers asking questions, and a town beginning to wonder what it actually knows about her. How those threads connect across the eight episodes is part of the appeal.

Joining Cardellini in the cast are William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom. The announcement doesn’t reveal their characters, so we’ll have to wait to discover where they fit into Pam’s increasingly troubling story.

Behind the scenes, Kane joins A24, original ‘Friday the 13th’ writer Victor Miller and Horror, Inc. in bringing the series to the screen. Executive producers include Marc Toberoff, Victor Miller, Robert M. Barsamian, Robert P. Barsamian, Stuart Manashil, Tyson Bidner, Michael Lennox and Roy Lee.

The complete-season release also means viewers can choose between stretching the mystery out over several evenings or making a substantial dent in it straight away. Either way, Sky and NOW are adding a suitably unsettling option to October’s viewing schedule. Perhaps leave the lakeside camping trip until another weekend.

‘Crystal Lake‘ premieres Monday, 19th October 2026, exclusively in the UK and Ireland on Sky and streaming service NOW, with all eight episodes available at launch.
