Fox has handed medical drama ‘Doc‘ an early Season 3 renewal, giving the series another rare 22-episode order as the show continues to prove a strong performer for the network.
The renewal comes during the show’s second season, which is currently airing in the US, and follows the same unusually large episode order the drama received for Season 2. Full 22-episode seasons have become increasingly uncommon in modern television, particularly for dramas, as networks move towards shorter, more cost-efficient runs. That makes ‘Doc’ something of an outlier in today’s TV landscape.
The series stars Molly Parker (House of Cards, Deadwood) as Dr. Amy Larsen, a brilliant but hard-driving physician whose life is upended after a car accident erases eight years of her memory. Forced to rebuild both her career and her personal life, Amy returns to the hospital where she once worked, confronting colleagues, relationships and choices she no longer remembers making.
Alongside Parker, the ensemble cast includes Omar Metwally (Mr. Robot), Amirah Vann (How to Get Away with Murder), Jon Ecker (Queen of the South), Anya Banerjee (The Blacklist), Patrick Walker (Lessons in Chemistry), and Charlotte Fountain-Jardim (The Watchful Eye). Season 2 also introduced Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives) to the cast, with Scott Wolf (Party of Five) appearing in a recurring role.
“Doc has become a true breakout for Fox, delivering our largest scripted multi-platform audience of the season and building remarkable momentum across Fox, Hulu, Netflix, and internationally — earning it another 22-episode order,” said Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network. “That success is a testament to the exceptional creative leadership of Hank Steinberg and Barbie Kligman, our terrific partners at Sony, and the talented Molly Parker, whose deeply nuanced performance gives the series its soul.”
The drama has been a major multi-platform hit for Fox this season, averaging around 7.4 million viewers across platforms. That figure represents a huge lift compared to its live broadcast ratings, highlighting the growing importance of streaming and catch-up viewing in the show’s success.
Co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Fox Entertainment Studios, the series was developed for US audiences by Barbie Kligman and Hank Steinberg. It is based on the Italian drama Doc — Nelle tue mani, which itself was inspired by a true story. The format has proven hugely successful internationally, with the series sold in more than 200 countries.
In the UK, ‘Doc‘ airs on Sky Witness, with the second half of Season 2 set to arrive this April 2026. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
