ITVX Picks Up New Zealand Dark Comedy ‘Good Grief’ Starring Eve & Grace Palmer

by Dave Elliott

ITVX continues to expand its comedy slate with the acquisition of Good Grief, a darkly funny New Zealand series about two sisters unexpectedly thrust into the funeral business.

Co-created by and starring real-life siblings Eve Palmer (The Brokenwood Mysteries) and Grace Palmer (Shortland Street), the show takes a sharp and irreverent look at the “death-care” industry. Set in a small Kiwi town, it follows Ellie and Gwen Goode, millennial sisters who inherit their grandfather’s funeral parlour and suddenly find themselves navigating the strange and sometimes absurd world of mortality.

Ellie discovers an unexpected talent for embalming and begins to embrace the family trade, while Gwen dreams of escaping the whole thing to pursue a career as a DJ in Bali. As they try to keep the business afloat, the pair encounter a steady stream of eccentric locals, emotional families and bizarre situations that blur the line between heartfelt drama and dark comedy.

Produced by Brown Sugar Apple Grunt (BSAG) Productions (The Legend of Baron To’a), the series has received international praise for balancing poignant moments with offbeat humour, finding laughter in even the most sombre circumstances.

ITVX has acquired both seasons of the show, meaning viewers will be able to binge the full story of the Goode sisters’ misadventures in the funeral trade.

Good Grief’ Seasons 1–2 premiere Wednesday, 9th April 2026 on ITVX.
