‘Matlock‘ finally returns to Sky Witness and NOW this May, as Kathy Bates’ brilliant legal drama resumes its second season following the winter hiatus.
The series sees Kathy Bates (Misery, American Horror Story) star as Madeline “Matty” Matlock, a sharp, unassuming attorney who re-enters the world of high-powered law with a very personal agenda hidden beneath the sensible shoes and grandmotherly charm. What began as a clever legal procedural has steadily turned into something much more twisty, with Matty’s secret mission inside Jacobson Moore continuing to cause serious ripples.
Season 2 Part 2 picks up with “Collateral”, the ninth episode of the season. As the show returns, Olympia and Matty each put together their own collateral for Julian, hoping to regain his trust after he makes a shocking discovery. Meanwhile, an injunction case takes a serious turn when their client is detained by ICE agents, forcing the team to shift gears as they fight to keep him with his family and prevent deportation.
The back half of the season also continues to dig into the ongoing Wellbrexa storyline, which has been sitting at the centre of Matty’s undercover mission since the start. With trust fractured, secrets bubbling up, and the firm increasingly looking like a very expensive pressure cooker, things are unlikely to get calmer any time soon.
Season 2 has not been without off-screen drama either. David Del Rio (The Baker and the Beauty) exited the series earlier in the season following an internal investigation by CBS Studios into alleged misconduct, with his character Billy Martinez written out off-camera after Episode 7.
New faces in the second half include Sarah Wright Olsen (Parks and Recreation, American Made) as Gwen, an efficiency expert shaking things up at the firm, and Henry Haber as Hunter, a younger associate whose arrival adds another complication to Matty and Olympia’s already strained dynamic.
There is also a nice little treat coming later in the season for fans of Jennie Snyder Urman’s previous work, as Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin, Not Dead Yet) is set to appear in the Season 2 finale, marking another reunion from the Jane the Virgin universe following appearances from Yael Grobglas and Justina Machado.
