Bad news for fans of supes-in-training, as ‘Gen V‘ has officially been cancelled after two seasons, bringing the Godolkin University saga to an end. However, the wider universe isn’t slowing down anytime soon, with a new spinoff, ‘Vought Rising‘, now confirmed and targeting a 2027 launch.
The cancellation doesn’t come as a huge shock. While ‘Gen V’ launched strongly and quickly secured a second season, the show faced a difficult road, including the tragic loss of Chance Perdomo (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), which delayed production on Season 2. More recently, cast members have begun moving on to other projects, signalling the writing was already on the wall.
That said, this isn’t a full stop for the characters. Thanks to the tightly connected nature of the so-called Vought Cinematic Universe, several ‘Gen V’ characters are already crossing over into the final season of The Boys, which continues the story of resistance against Homelander’s regime. The showrunners have confirmed those characters will continue to appear across the franchise, so this is more of a transition than a disappearance.
Looking ahead, Vought Rising is the next major chapter. While details remain under wraps, it’s expected to explore the darker corporate history of Vought, further expanding the world beyond both ‘The Boys’ and ‘Gen V’. Another project, The Boys: Mexico, is also still in development, showing Amazon clearly isn’t done with this universe just yet.
‘Gen V’ starred Jaz Sinclair (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Lizze Broadway (The Rookie), Maddie Phillips (Teenage Bounty Hunters), London Thor (Shameless), Derek Luh (All Rise), Asa Germann (Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story), Sean Patrick Thomas (Save the Last Dance), and Hamish Linklater (Midnight Mass), and helped flesh out the next generation of supes in a way that fed directly into the main series.
So while it’s the end of ‘Gen V’ as a standalone show, its DNA is very much sticking around. If anything, this feels like Amazon consolidating the universe as ‘The Boys’ heads towards its own conclusion and the franchise gears up for its next phase.
