Paramount+ has confirmed that ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ will return this July, giving fans a fresh look at the next chapter of Captain Pike’s increasingly eventful mission aboard the USS Enterprise.
The new teaser, unveiled during the Paramount+ presentation at CCXP Mexico, looks exactly like the sort of gloriously all-over-the-place adventure this show does so well. There are big cosmic threats, some familiar faces, a few emotional beats, and yes, apparently dinosaurs and cowboys are now part of the mix too. Honestly, at this point, ‘Strange New Worlds’ has earned the right to throw absolutely anything into the warp core and see what happens.
In season 4, the crew of the USS Enterprise, led by Captain Christopher Pike, embark on a series of thrilling and emotional adventures across the stars. As they journey to strange new worlds, they battle inner demons and external threats, encounter colourful new characters, reunite with familiar faces and confront terrifying aliens, all while trying to hold onto the hopeful future that has always sat at the heart of ‘Star Trek’.
The returning cast includes Anson Mount (Hell on Wheels), Rebecca Romijn (X-Men), Ethan Peck (Penny Dreadful: City of Angels), Jess Bush (Playing for Keeps), Christina Chong (Line of Duty), Celia Rose Gooding (Jagged Little Pill), Melissa Navia (Billions), Babs Olusanmokun (Dune), and Martin Quinn (The Lovers), with Paul Wesley (The Vampire Diaries) also back as James T. Kirk. Paramount+ has also released a batch of first-look images from the new season, including more of Kirk, Spock, Scotty and the Enterprise crew in action.
There is, of course, a slightly bittersweet edge to all this. Paramount previously confirmed that ‘Strange New Worlds’ will end with season 5, which will consist of six episodes. So while season 4 is good news, it also means we’re heading into the back half of the show’s five-season run. Still, if the teaser is anything to go by, the series looks set to keep doing what it does best right up to the end: mixing classic ‘Star Trek’ optimism with big swings, weird ideas, and a crew viewers genuinely love spending time with.
