James Marsden To Lead Apple TV Action Thriller ‘Disavowed’ From ‘Iron Man’ Writers

by Dave Elliott

Apple TV has added another action thriller to the pile, as Disavowed lands at the streamer with James Marsden (Your Friends & Neighbors, Paradise) set to star and executive produce.

The new ongoing series comes from Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man, Uncharted), based on their original idea, and follows a legendary CIA officer who finds himself very much on the wrong side of the intelligence world.

Marsden stars as Brad Griffin, a top CIA Case Officer who is abruptly fired while in the middle of a global hunt for an elusive assassin responsible for killing his colleague. Disgraced, outcast, and no longer playing by agency rules, Brad decides to go after the $15 million federal bounty on the assassin’s head himself. Which, as career pivots go, is certainly bolder than updating your LinkedIn.

The series comes from Apple Studios, with Marcum, Holloway, Tom Spezialy and Marsden executive producing. Blue Marble Pictures, the company behind Apple’s critically acclaimed ‘Pachinko’, will produce, with Theresa Kang and Caroline Garity also serving as executive producers.

Marcum and Holloway are best known for their work on the original Iron Man, which helped launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe, along with credits including Uncharted and Men in Black: International. Marsden, meanwhile, has been on a strong run recently with roles in Your Friends & Neighbors and Paradise, alongside his many previous credits including Westworld, Dead to Me, and the Sonic the Hedgehog films.

‘Disavowed’ joins Apple TV’s growing slate of thrillers and prestige dramas, which already includes titles such as ‘Severance’, ‘Slow Horses’, ‘Hijack’, ‘Presumed Innocent’, and ‘Your Friends & Neighbors’.

Disavowed’ does not yet have a premiere date but will air on Apple TV in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
