Sky has acquired ‘The Death Of Sherlock Holmes‘, a new high-end mystery drama starring Rafe Spall (Trying) and Deleila Piasko (Transatlantic), which will arrive on Sky and NOW in the UK and Ireland in 2027.
The series comes as part of Sky’s ongoing partnership with Sphere Abacus, and explores one of the most tantalising gaps in Sherlock Holmes lore: the three mysterious years between the detective’s apparent death at the Reichenbach Falls in 1891 and his return in 1894. Arthur Conan Doyle famously left that period largely untold, which gives this new drama plenty of room to play with the legend, the myth, and presumably quite a lot of snowy peril.
Set against the brutal beauty of the Swiss Alps, the story begins after an Englishman is found barely alive in an icy mountain stream by local woman Alma and her young son, Franz. With no memory of who he is, the stranger is pulled into a local murder investigation when the village doctor is killed and suspicion falls on the boy. Though he remembers nothing, flashes of brilliant deduction suggest there may be far more to this mysterious man than anyone realises.
As fragments of memory begin to return, the stranger is forced to confront the question of who he really is. What begins as an isolated Alpine murder mystery soon expands into a wider conspiracy, drawing him closer to the truth of his past, and the legendary name he may once have carried.

The drama is created by Claudia Bluemhuber (Fallen), André Küttel (Platzspitzbaby) and Pierre Monnard (Winter Palace), written by Küttel and Simone Schmid (Die Beschatter), and inspired by the iconic characters of Arthur Conan Doyle. Production is now underway, with Monnard and Bluemhuber directing.
“Audiences continue to be enthralled by the exploits of Sherlock Holmes. This new iteration, created by our friends at Silver Reel and recounting Holmes’ completely unknown adventures during a mysterious and pivotal moment in Holmes’ life, is sure to delight viewers around the world.” said Jonathan Ford, Managing Director of Sphere Abacus.
“We’re excited to come on board this smart new reimagining that opens up an untold chapter in the Sherlock Holmes story—anchored by the return of Rafe Spall to Sky in the leading role. Our partnership with Sphere Abacus continues later this year with the launch of contemporary mystery thriller Yaga, and we’re thrilled that The Death of Sherlock Holmes will join the most talked about show of the year with Season 2 of Heated Rivalry on our slate for 2027” said Katie Keenan, Group Director of Acquisitions at Sky.
Following Silver Reel’s International Emmy win in 2025 for YA drama ‘Fallen’, ‘The Death Of Sherlock Holmes’ is produced as a Swiss-German-Belgian co-production with Sky Switzerland, SRF, ARD Degeto and Umedia. The project is supported by FFF Bayern and the IDM Film Commission. Bluemhuber and Monnard serve as showrunners, with Florian Dargel, Alexander Jooss, Fabian Stein, Baptiste Planche, Bettina Alber, Jonathan Ford and Will Stapley as co-executive producers. Alen Bulic oversees the project for Silver Reel, with Sphere Abacus handling international distribution.
‘The Death Of Sherlock Holmes‘ does not yet have a premiere date but will air on Sky and streaming service NOW in the UK and Ireland in 2027. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
