NBC has handed out series orders to four new shows for the 2026-27 season, with two dramas and two comedies making the cut from the network’s pilot slate. The new arrivals include ‘Line Of Fire’, ‘The Rockford Files’, ‘Newlyweds’, and ‘Sunset P.I.’, giving the broadcaster a mix of procedurals, private eyes, late-life romance, and another reminder that Los Angeles remains television’s spiritual home for people solving crimes while making questionable life choices.
The pick-ups also give fresh primetime vehicles to two of the most consistent TV stars of the last three decades. Peter Krause (9-1-1) will extend a remarkable run as a lead in US primetime drama, having moved from one major network project to another with barely a gap since 1998’s Sports Night, including Six Feet Under, Dirty Sexy Money, Parenthood, The Catch, and most recently 9-1-1. Meanwhile, David Boreanaz (SEAL Team) returns to network drama after a genuinely ridiculous run from 1997 through to 2024, with a TV show on air every single year, starting with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, spinning into Angel, rolling into Bones, and then into SEAL Team, which wrapped in 2024.
‘Line Of Fire’ follows a family of law enforcement agents who bridge personal differences and cross professional boundaries while tackling cases for the FBI, US Marshals, Secret Service and Department of Justice. After what appears to be a straightforward case turns into a deadly conspiracy, they must use a lifetime of experience protecting civilians and politicians to protect one another, even if that means betraying their sworn code.
The drama stars Peter Krause (9-1-1), Hope Davis (Succession), Kat Cunning (The Deuce), Tommy O’Brien, Taylor Bloom, and Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll). The series comes from writer Josh Safran, who executive produces alongside Jenna Bush Hager and Ben Spector, with Rebecca Thomas executive producing the pilot. Universal Television produces.
‘The Rockford Files’ is a contemporary update of the classic detective drama, with David Boreanaz (SEAL Team) stepping into the role of James Rockford. Newly paroled after serving time for a crime he did not commit, Rockford returns to life as a private investigator in Los Angeles, using charm, wit, and presumably a healthy distrust of everyone around him to solve cases. Unfortunately for him, his attempts to regain legitimacy soon put him in the crosshairs of both local police and organised crime.
The series also stars Michaela McManus (The Village), Felix Solis (Ozark), and Jacki Weaver (Yellowstone). Mike Daniels writes and executive produces, with Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman also executive producing. Chris Leanza serves as co-executive producer, while Greg Mottola executive produces the pilot. Universal Television produces.
On the comedy side, ‘Newlyweds’ is a later-in-life love story about a free-spirited woman and a buttoned-up professor who marry impulsively after a whirlwind courtship. The multi-camera comedy stars real-life couple Téa Leoni (Madam Secretary) and Tim Daly (Wings), with Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All At Once) appearing as a recurring guest star.
The series comes from writer Gail Lerner, who executive produces alongside Eric Tannenbaum and Kim Tannenbaum for The Tannenbaum Company, Jamie Lee Curtis, Scott Schwartz, and Lionsgate Television. Pam Fryman executive produces the pilot. Universal Television produces, with NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution handling international sales.
Rounding out the slate is ‘Sunset P.I.’, a single-camera comedy that NBC describes as continuing “the proud tradition of Los Angeles private eyes that began with Philip Marlowe and will end with this show.” So, no pressure then.
The comedy stars Jake Johnson (New Girl), Jane Levy (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist), Langston Kerman (English Teacher), Mary Shalaby, and Keith David (Community). The series is written and executive produced by Dan Goor (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Luke Del Tredici (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), with Akiva Schaffer executive producing the pilot. Universal Television produces.
NBC’s four orders come from a larger eight-pilot slate, marking one of the network’s more active pilot seasons in recent years. The broadcaster leaned heavily on recognisable TV names across the board, and that appears to have paid off, with The Rockford Files and Line Of Fire adding proven drama leads, while Newlyweds and Sunset P.I. bring established comedy talent into the mix.
‘Line Of Fire’, ‘The Rockford Files’, ‘Newlyweds’, and ‘Sunset P.I.’ do not yet have UK premiere dates or broadcasters. If you want to keep track of these or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
