Netflix has released a new teaser trailer and image for ‘THE ONE PIECE’, the upcoming new anime adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s ridiculously massive pirate saga, which sets sail on the streaming service in February.
Produced by the rather excellent WIT Studio, the team behind Spy x Family and the first three seasons of Attack on Titan, the new series is being made in collaboration with Shueisha, Fuji Television Network, and Toei Animation Co. Rather than continuing the long-running anime, ‘THE ONE PIECE’ goes right back to the beginning, reimagining Luffy’s earliest adventures through the East Blue Saga with updated animation and modern visual tech.
For those somehow still unfamiliar with one of the biggest manga and anime franchises on the planet, One Piece follows Monkey D. Luffy, an aspiring pirate with a body that can stretch like rubber, as he heads out to sea in search of the legendary One Piece treasure. Along the way, he begins gathering the Straw Hat crew, taking on increasingly dangerous enemies, and generally causing the sort of joyful chaos you would expect from a boy determined to become King of the Pirates.
Season 1 of ‘THE ONE PIECE’ will cover the first 50 chapters of Oda’s original manga, adapting the East Blue Saga across seven episodes, with a total runtime of around 300 minutes. That takes the story from Luffy’s early days through to his encounter with Sanji, the sous-chef of the floating restaurant Baratie.
The East Blue Saga is, of course, where the whole sprawling adventure begins. It introduces Luffy, the world of pirates, the legend of Gold Roger, and the foundations of the Straw Hats crew. Given that the original anime began all the way back in 1999 and has been running ever since, this new version should provide a much easier jumping-on point for newcomers, whilst also giving long-time fans a shiny new take on those early chapters.
Netflix has also released a new image showing a young Luffy in Windmill Village, enjoying time at Partys Bar alongside Red-Haired Pirates captain Shanks, first mate Benn Beckman, and bar owner Makino. The teaser offers a further look at the opening stretch of Luffy’s journey, including some of the familiar faces and foes who help shape the early part of his adventure.

Behind the scenes, ‘THE ONE PIECE’ has Masashi Koizuka (Attack on Titan, Moonrise) directing, with Hideaki Abe as assistant director. Taku Kishimoto (Sakamoto Days) handles series composition, while Kyoji Asano (Spy x Family, Attack on Titan) and Takatoshi Honda (In/Spectre) serve as character designers and chief animation directors.
The wider creative team also includes Yasuhiro Kajino on creature design and image boards, Eri Taguchi on prop design, Ken Imaizumi and Shûhei Fukuda as action animators, Tomonori Kuroda as art director, and Ryoma Kawamura as animation producer.
The original One Piece manga was first published in 1997 and has sold more than 600 million copies globally as of March 2026. It was adapted into the long-running anime in 1999, while Netflix’s live-action version launched in 2023. Seasons 1 and 2 of the live-action series are streaming now, with Season 3 due to arrive in 2027.
‘THE ONE PIECE’ Season 1 premieres February 2027 on Netflix. All seven episodes drop at once. If I want to keep track of this or any other shows, I can add them via our Never Miss system, and I’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss: https://www.geektown.co.uk/nevermiss/
