FX has set a September premiere for ‘The Drop: A Snowfall Saga’, the new drama from Malcolm Spellman and the producers behind the acclaimed FX series ‘Snowfall’.
The eight-episode series follows ‘Snowfall’ characters Wanda Bell and Leon Simmons as they try to reinvent themselves in 90s Los Angeles. With the crack epidemic leaving a brutal legacy behind it, a new power game is beginning to take shape through the rise of West Coast rap.
Wanda, played by Gail Bean (Snowfall), begins the series with a fierce belief that West Coast rap has the power to reshape American culture. She sets out to pull together a ragtag group of talented outsiders and push them towards the lives they have been dreaming of. Of course, this being the world of ‘Snowfall’, that means navigating the dangerous collision point between music, street politics, ambition, loyalty, and survival.
Alongside Wanda is Leon Simmons, played by Isaiah John (Snowfall), who is determined to leave the streets behind and find some kind of atonement through his free legal clinic. That puts him on a very different path from Wanda, whose internship with former D-boy-turned-label-owner Darryl “DG” Grant opens doors, but also creates new tensions between the pair.
The story also pulls in Wanda’s cousins Lamar Kinsey, played by Asante Blackk (This Is Us), and James Kinsey, played by Peyton Alex Smith (All American: Homecoming), along with volatile local rapper Artillery, played by Simmie “Buddy” Sims III, who already has his own problems with law enforcement.
The cast also includes Mykelti Williamson (Justified), Nicki Micheaux (Lincoln Heights), Brandon Mychal Smith (You’re the Worst), Isidora Goreshter (Shameless), Eric Balfour (Haven), Richard Portnow (The Sopranos), Zaire Adams, Demetrius Grosse (Fear the Walking Dead) and Quincy Chad, who also returns from ‘Snowfall’.
Behind the camera, the series is executive produced by Malcolm Spellman, Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, Trevor Engelson and Paul Garnes. The series is produced by FX Productions.
The original ‘Snowfall’ ran for six seasons on FX, charting the early days of the crack cocaine epidemic in Los Angeles through the story of Franklin Saint and the people pulled into his orbit. ‘The Drop: A Snowfall Saga’ looks set to move that world forward into a different cultural battleground, where music, money and power are all fighting for the same space.
‘The Drop: A Snowfall Saga’ Season 1 premieres Tuesday, 8th September 2026 at 9pm ET/PT on FX and Hulu in the USA, with new episodes debuting weekly. The series will stream on Disney+ internationally, although a UK premiere date has not yet been confirmed. If I want to keep track of this or any other shows, I can add them via our Never Miss system, and I’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
