ITVX has picked up ‘One Dollar’, a mystery thriller which asks a very simple question: how much does it cost to bury the truth?
Landing on the streaming service in August, the series comes from writer, creator and executive producer Jason Mosberg (Southern Fury), with Craig Zobel (Westworld, Mare of Easttown, The Penguin) directing. Given Zobel’s track record with tense, character-driven drama, this one should be worth a look for anyone after a twisty murder mystery with a very unusual framing device.
Set in Braden, Pennsylvania, a forgotten rust belt town in post-recession America, ‘One Dollar’ follows the movement of a single one-dollar bill as it passes between different people. As that note changes hands, it connects a group of characters who become entangled in a bloody multiple murder at a local steel mill.
It is worth noting that ‘One Dollar’ was cancelled after one season, so anyone diving in should treat this as a one-and-done mystery rather than the start of a long-running thriller.
Each episode shifts perspective to a different character, gradually peeling back the layers of the town and exposing the class divisions, cultural fault lines, and long-buried secrets hiding beneath the surface. Basically, small-town America, but with considerably more murder and less friendly neighbourly chat.
The series stars John Carroll Lynch (Fargo) as Bud Carl, owner of Carl Steel, Philip Ettinger (First Reformed) as Garrett, a struggling single father, and Nathaniel Martello-White (Small Axe) as Jake, a private investigator determined to solve the case.
‘One Dollar’ is produced by CBS Studios in association with Anonymous Content, and is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution. Executive producers are Rafael Yglesias, Jason Mosberg, Graham Gordy, Alexandre Dauman, Matt DeRoss and Craig Zobel.
‘One Dollar’ Season 1 premieres Sunday, 23rd August 2026 on ITVX.
