BBC Reveals First-Look Teaser For ‘Blue Lights’ Series 4, Coming This Autumn

by Dave Elliott

The BBC has released a first-look teaser for the upcoming fourth series of Blue Lights, as the BAFTA and RTS award-winning Belfast police drama prepares to return to BBC iPlayer and BBC One this autumn.

The new clip sees Constable Shane Bradley stopping elderly driver David and his passenger Imelda, in what appears to be an attempt to help improve Blackthorn’s crime statistics. Given this is ‘Blue Lights’, we suspect things may not be quite as simple as they first appear…

Series four once again follows the officers of Blackthorn station as they navigate the dangerous, messy, and very human reality of policing in Belfast. Returning cast includes Siân Brooke (Sherlock, Trying) as Grace, Martin McCann (Trespasses, Hostage) as Stevie, Katherine Devlin (The Day Of The Jackal, Vikings) as Annie, Nathan Braniff (Blue Lights S1-4) as Tommy, and Frank Blake (Say Nothing, Normal People) as Shane.

There are also some familiar faces returning to the fold, including Richard Dormer (The Day of the Jackal, Game of Thrones, Fortitude) as Gerry Cliff. His return comes in an episode which will apparently answer some important questions from the past. Also back are Hannah McClean (Malpractice) as solicitor Jen Robinson and Jonathan Harden (The Rainmaker, Time) as disgraced former Inspector Jonty.

The wider cast includes Joanne Crawford (Outlander: Blood of my Blood) as Helen McNally, Andi Osho (The Sandman, I May Destroy You) as Sandra, Abigail McGibbon (Sadie, Ballywalter) as Tina, Dearbháile McKinney (Blue Lights S1-4) as Aisling, Neil Keery (How To Get To Heaven From Belfast) as McCloskey, and Andrea Irvine (Call The Midwife) as Nicola.

Also returning are Cathy Tyson (Dune: Prophecy, Black Ops) as private members club owner Dana Morgan, and Michael Smiley (Bad Sisters, Censor) as C3 intelligence officer Paul “Colly” Collins.

The six-part series is produced by Two Cities Television and co-produced by Gallagher Films for BBC iPlayer and BBC One, with support from Northern Ireland Screen. ‘Blue Lights’ is co-created, written and executive produced by Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson, co-created and produced by Stephen Wright for Two Cities Television, and co-created and co-produced by Louise Gallagher for Gallagher Films.

Series four is produced by Brendan Mullin (In Flight, Wreck S2), with episodes one to three directed by Angela Griffin (Blue Lights S3, Waterloo Road) and episodes four to six directed by Sam O’Mahony (The Wise Guy).

The drama was commissioned by Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama. Executive producers are Stephen Wright, Louise Gallagher, Declan Lawn, Adam Patterson, and Nick Lambon for the BBC. BBC Studios is handling global sales for the fourth series, along with all previous seasons, with the drama now sold in more than 160 territories.

Blue Lights’ Season 4 premieres this autumn on BBC iPlayer and BBC One. If I want to keep track of this or any other shows, I can add them via our Never Miss system, and I’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
