HBO Max has released the official trailer for DC Studios drama ‘Lanterns’, bringing two of DC’s most famous ring-slingers together for a murder mystery with some very cosmic consequences when it premieres this August.
At the centre of the eight-part drama are new recruit John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge), and veteran Lantern Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights). The pair are drawn into a dark, earth-based investigation after a murder in the American heartland reveals connections stretching far beyond the planet.
That setup gives ‘Lanterns’ a distinctly grounded crime-thriller feel, despite its heroes being members of an intergalactic police force. The new trailer offers a better look at the uneasy partnership between Stewart and Jordan, along with the wider mystery that pulls them together.
The trailer was unveiled during a San Diego Comic-Con panel featuring the leading duo alongside Garret Dillahunt (Fear the Walking Dead), Poorna Jagannathan (Never Have I Ever), and co-creators Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King.
The wider cast includes Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), Laura Linney (Ozark), Jason Ritter (Parenthood), Ulrich Thomsen (Banshee), Nathan Fillion (The Rookie), J. Alphonse Nicholson (P-Valley) and Jasmine Cephas Jones (Blindspotting).
Produced by HBO in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios, ‘Lanterns’ was co-created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King, with Mundy serving as showrunner. The pilot was co-written by the trio, while James Hawes directs the opening two episodes. Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel and Alik Sakharov also direct across the season.
The series is executive produced by Mundy, Lindelof, King, James Gunn, Peter Safran, Ron Schmidt and Hawes, and is based on the Green Lantern characters from DC Comics.
‘Lanterns’ premieres Monday, 17th August 2026 on HBO Max in the UK and Ireland.
