FX has set an October return for ‘The Lowdown‘, with Ethan Hawke (Training Day, Before Sunrise) back as troublesome citizen journalist Lee Raybon, joined by new cast members Betty Gilpin (GLOW, Mrs. Davis) and Tommy Lee Jones (Men in Black, No Country for Old Men). The eight-episode second season will stream on Disney+ internationally, including the UK, alongside its FX and Hulu release in the USA.
Created, written, executive produced and directed by Sterlin Harjo, ‘The Lowdown’ follows Lee, a Tulsa citizen journalist whose relentless pursuit of the truth has a habit of putting him directly in the path of the city’s powerful, corrupt and generally unpleasant people. When he isn’t digging into local wrongdoing, he runs a rare books store which also serves as something of an unofficial community hub.

Season 2 picks up after Lee’s investigation into the life and death of Dale Washberg earns him a local citizen journalist award. Naturally, Lee responds to something actually going well by self-medicating and making a spectacularly poor showing at the ceremony. His unfiltered acceptance speech does, however, catch the attention of Ginger, a brash public defender played by Betty Gilpin (GLOW, Mrs. Davis).
Ginger reluctantly accepts Lee’s help with a particularly strange case after one of her clients disappears from the state penitentiary. Quite how someone manages to go missing while already locked inside a prison is the sort of question Lee finds impossible to leave alone, particularly when the investigation begins uncovering links to power, corruption and wealthy elites.

Back at The Heartland Press, Marty, played by Keith David (Community, The Thing), is now Managing Editor, much to Lee’s irritation. His investigation also sees him reluctantly calling on Johnny, played by Rafael Casal (Blindspotting), the jujitsu-trained dentist who has married Lee’s ex Samantha, played by Kaniehtiio Horn (Reservation Dogs), and is now helping raise Lee’s teenage daughter Francis, played by Ryan Kiera Armstrong (Firestarter).
Things become even more complicated when Lee’s estranged grifter father, Lee Raybon Senior, arrives in Tulsa, played by Tommy Lee Jones (Men in Black, No Country for Old Men). That would be awkward enough on its own, but Lee has previously told Francis that her grandfather was dead. There are probably smoother ways to handle an unexpected family reunion.
The first season of ‘The Lowdown’ was named one of the AFI’s TV Programs of the Year and currently holds a 98% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Harjo executive produces alongside Garrett Basch, Ethan Hawke, Ryan Hawke, Duffy Boudreau and Scott Teems, with FX Productions producing the series.
‘The Lowdown‘ Season 2 premieres Wednesday, 14th October 2026 on Disney+ in the UK, and on FX and Hulu in the USA, with new episodes released weekly each Wednesday.
