The documentary crew which once immortalised Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch has found itself another workplace worth pointing cameras at, as Sky releases the trailer for ‘The Paper‘ Season 2 ahead of its return this September on Sky and NOW.

All episodes of the second season will arrive together, sending viewers back to the offices of the Toledo Truth-Teller as its increasingly enthusiastic collection of reporters try to keep their historic Midwestern newspaper alive.

‘The Paper’ comes from Greg Daniels, creator of the US version of ‘The Office’, and Michael Koman, picking up the mockumentary baton by following the same documentary crew which previously spent years filming the employees of Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch.

Season 2 finds the Toledo Truth-Teller coming off a rather unexpected high after sweeping the Ohio Journalism Awards. Ned is now looking for a proper journalistic crusade and decides to take aim at a local private club, although his investigation soon threatens to put the newspaper itself in jeopardy.

Meanwhile, Ned and Mare are still attempting to work out exactly what is going on between them, Esmeralda is struggling to find her place, and the rest of the staff are gradually beginning to mature as reporters. Which, given the particular workplace universe this documentary crew tends to inhabit, probably shouldn’t be taken as a guarantee that everything suddenly becomes sensible.

The returning cast includes Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Tim Key, Ramona Young, Eric Rahill, Duane Shepard Sr., Alex Edelman and Oscar Nuñez.

They will be joined by a new collection of guest stars, including Jon Lovitz (The Simpsons), Andy Richter (Conan), Lisa Gilroy (Jury Duty), Matt Braunger (Agent Carter), Toks Olagundoye (Family Guy) and Phil Hendrie.

Daniels and Koman created, wrote and executive produce ‘The Paper’, with Daniels producing through Deedle-Dee Productions. Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein and Ben Silverman are also among the executive producers, alongside Banijay Americas. The series is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

The new trailer gives us our first taste of the newspaper team’s next round of attempts at serious journalism, while continuing the slightly ridiculous workplace energy inherited from ‘The Office’. The first season proved there was plenty of life in the mockumentary format away from Scranton, so it’ll be interesting to see just how much trouble Ned’s new crusade can cause when the paper returns in September.
