Channel 4 has released the trailer for new six-part romantic comedy ‘Break Clause‘, starring Samuel Bottomley (How to Have Sex) and Lara Ricote (Mitchell And Webb Are Not Helping), ahead of its arrival this October.
The series follows Ben and Lil, a young couple whose relationship has come to an end. Unfortunately, their tenancy has not. With neither able to simply walk away from their shared flat, the pair have to work out how to move on from their first love while still living under the same roof.
It is a very modern romantic comedy problem: breaking up is difficult enough without also having to contend with the UK rental market.
‘Break Clause’ was written and created by Jess Bray (The Outlaws) and directed by Alice Snedden (Starstruck), with BBC Studios Comedy producing in co-production with ZDFneo in Germany.
The comedy originally began life as part of Channel 4’s Comedy Blaps strand before being expanded into a full six-part series. The strand has previously helped launch shows including We Are Lady Parts, Stath Lets Flats and Chewing Gum.
Alongside Bottomley and Ricote, the rather packed cast includes John Thomson (Cold Feet) as Alan, Lucy Black (Gentleman Jack) as Deb, Catherine Cohen (Sentimental Value) as Jos, Charly Clive (Rooster) as Frances, Hammed Animashaun (Black Ops) as Paul, Michael Workéyè (The Moment) as Kas, Jessica Knappett (Avoidance) as the Vicar, Nathan Foad (Our Flag Means Death) as Owen, Assa Kanouté (Boarders) as Kira, Jack Shep (SNL UK) as Liam, Tamika Bennett as Nic, Jack James Ryan (I Fought the Law) as Jordan, and Lucas Jones (Get Millie Black) as Sean.
Jess Bray, Mark Freeland, Molly Seymour and Josh Cole serve as executive producers for BBC Studios Comedy, alongside Laura Mae Harding for ZDFneo, with Olly Cambridge producing. BBC Studios is handling global sales for the series.
‘Break Clause‘ Season 1 premieres Thursday, 1st October 2026 on Channel 4, with the opening episode at 10pm and all six episodes available to stream from the same day.
