Disney+ UK has pulled a genuine surprise, quietly dropping ‘R.J. Decker‘ Season 2 today with no advance press announcement, just one day after the new season premiered on ABC in the USA.
That is a far quicker turnaround than many US network shows get over here. The second season of ‘R.J. Decker’ launched on ABC yesterday immediately following the Season 35 premiere of ‘Dancing With the Stars’, and the first new episode is already sitting there waiting for UK viewers on Disney+.
At the time of writing, there has been no press release from Disney announcing the UK return or confirming the release schedule, although it has popped up today on a promo email from Disney+ UK. Given the first episode has landed just one day after its US broadcast, it certainly looks like Disney+ could be following the ABC transmission weekly.
Season 2 takes us back to South Florida, where the cases are getting stranger and the people Decker thinks he can trust have a habit of proving him wrong.
Scott Speedman (Grey’s Anatomy, Animal Kingdom) returns as R.J. Decker, the disgraced newspaper photographer and ex-con who has reinvented himself as a private investigator in the colourful, and very crime-filled, world of South Florida.
His unusual investigations are helped along by journalist ex Emilia “Emi” Ochoa, played by Jaina Lee Ortiz (Station 19, Rosewood), alongside her police detective wife, Decker’s former cellmate turned confidant, and the mysterious Catherine Delacroix, a woman from his past who could either be his greatest ally or send him straight back to prison.
The Season 2 premiere also features a rather unexpected bit of cross-promotion with ‘Dancing With the Stars’. Pro dancers and real-life married couple Jenna Johnson and Val Chmerkovskiy appear alongside Season 33 champion Joey Graziadei, bringing a little ballroom flair to Decker’s latest Florida weirdness.
‘R.J. Decker’ is inspired by Carl Hiaasen’s novel Double Whammy and comes from creator and showrunner Rob Doherty (Elementary). The series is produced by 20th Television.
The crime drama proved to be a strong performer for ABC when it launched earlier this year, setting a five-year ratings record for the network’s 10pm slot. Its first episode pulled in 3.69 million viewers live plus same-day, rising to 11.64 million multiplatform viewers within six days across ABC, Hulu, Hulu on Disney+, digital platforms and repeat broadcasts.
So, if you were expecting to be waiting around for Season 2 in the UK, surprise! Decker is already back on the case.
‘R.J. Decker‘ Season 2 premieres Wednesday, 16th September 2026 on Disney+ UK.
