‘A Man on the Inside’ is coming to an end. Netflix has confirmed that the comedy’s third season will be its last, as filming gets underway in San Francisco. Ted Danson (‘Cheers’) will return as Charles Nieuwendyk for one final investigation, with Bernadette Peters, Nick Offerman and Stephen Root among the new guest stars.
This time, Charles is hired by Coco Van Beck, a San Francisco philanthropist who wants him to find out who is sabotaging her work. Coco is played by Bernadette Peters (‘The Good Fight’), while Annette O’Toole (‘Virgin River’) plays her longtime friend Kitt. Christopher McDonald (‘Hacks’) joins as Leland, Coco’s third ex-husband and a vineyard owner.
There are more potential suspects in Coco’s circle. Diedrich Bader (‘Better Things’) plays Mark Delaurio, a real estate developer who has clashed with her before. Nick Offerman (‘The Last of Us’) is Jack Spencer, one of Coco’s employees, who takes a special interest in Charles’s investigation. Rachel Dratch (‘30 Rock’) plays Maud, Coco’s assistant, who gets by on three hours of sleep while keeping three phones on the go. Charles may need a notebook just to track her calls.
The case will also bring Charles face to face with his estranged brother Dave, played by Stephen Root (‘Barry’). Elsewhere, Jessica St. Clair (‘The Studio’) plays Chloe, a friend helping Charles’s daughter Emily navigate a new phase of parenthood.
Returning cast members include Mary Elizabeth Ellis (‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’) as Emily, Lilah Richcreek Estrada (‘Dave’) as Julie, Stephanie Beatriz (‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’) as Didi, Eugene Cordero (‘The Good Place’) as Joel, Stephen McKinley Henderson (‘Fences’) as Calbert, Sally Struthers (‘All in the Family’) as Virginia, and Mary Steenburgen (‘Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist’) as Mona.
The news that Season 3 will conclude the series comes from creator Mike Schur (‘The Good Place’), who described it as “one final chapter” for Charles. It’s a fitting phrase for a character who began the show as a widower looking for something new to do, then found friendship, romance and a surprising talent for undercover work.
Netflix has yet to announce a premiere date for ‘A Man on the Inside’ Season 3. The first two seasons are available to stream now.
