Channel 4 has released new images from ‘It Gets Worse‘, its upcoming comedy from A24 and Leo Reich. The pictures introduce several of the people about to make life even more complicated for three London flatmates who were already having a fairly terrible time.
Reich writes, creates and stars as Ethan, alongside Emily Fairn as Abi and Olive Gray as Sam. The three have been best friends since university and have spent a year living together in London. So far, they have collectively accomplished very little. Now their landlord is selling up, which means they’re about to lose the flat that has been holding their lives, and perhaps their friendship, together.
The new images reveal Lena Dunham (‘Girls’) as Greta, Amelia Dimoldenberg (‘Chicken Shop Date’) as Emily, Blake Harrison (‘The Inbetweeners’) as Roger and Vicki Pepperdine (‘Getting On’) as Sarah. Clayton Pettet, also known as Babymorocco, appears as Freddy. There’s a fresh look at the central trio too, in case anyone wants to see what impending eviction looks like on their faces.
Once Ethan, Abi and Sam are scattered across the city, they’ll have to work out whether their friendship can survive the distance, their humiliating jobs and their less than spectacular love lives. The show’s central question is whether things might finally start to improve for them. Given the title, we wouldn’t put money on it.
Novelist Zadie Smith narrates the series, which is directed by Mounia Akl (‘House of Guinness’, ‘The Responder’). Sam Pinnell (‘Trying’, ‘Motherland’, ‘Derry Girls’) produces, with Matthew Lewis (‘Adolescence’) serving as director of photography.
‘It Gets Worse‘ will screen at the London Film Festival before arriving on Channel 4. The festival premiere is on Wednesday, 14th October 2026; Channel 4 has confirmed the show for October but has yet to announce its broadcast date.
