ITV has unveiled the trailer and first-look images for ‘Adultery‘, a six-part drama arriving this October. Dominic Cooper (‘Preacher’) and Romola Garai (‘Vigil’) play two parents whose children are falling in love. That might have been awkward enough before the parents started an affair of their own.
Tom Kirkman’s 15-year-old daughter Jess, played by Leila Khan (‘Heartstopper’), is head over heels for her schoolmate Ollie, played by Johnny Sanpher. Then Tom meets Ollie’s mum Beth Brookes in unexpected circumstances, and the attraction between them proves rather harder to ignore than either of their marriages would probably appreciate.
The new images show Tom and Beth sharing an intimate moment while Jess and Ollie remain happily wrapped up in their own relationship, unaware of what their parents are doing. Tom’s wife Hannah, played by Shelley Conn (‘Bridgerton’), and Beth’s husband Neil, played by Matthew McNulty (‘Deadwater Fell’), are also none the wiser. With the teenagers bringing the two families closer together, keeping a secret like this could get complicated very quickly.
Writer Danny Brocklehurst, whose previous credits include ‘Fool Me Once’ and ‘Brassic’, has built the story around more than the affair itself. The drama also explores class, grief, parenthood and the effects of social media as Tom and Beth’s choices threaten to change both families’ lives. Jess and Ollie might be the ones behaving like lovestruck teenagers, but their parents appear to be having considerably more trouble controlling themselves.
The cast also includes Andrew Knott (‘Gavin & Stacey’) as Dave, the ex-husband of Beth’s recently deceased best friend. James Murray (‘The Crown’) and Charley Webb (‘The Long Shadow’) play Tom’s brother Paul and sister-in-law Leah.
Brocklehurst created and wrote the series, with Will Sinclair directing the first three episodes and Daniel O’Hara directing the final three. Poison Pen Studios produces the drama in association with ITV Studios.
‘Adultery‘ premieres in October on ITV and STV, with streaming on ITVX and STV Player. An exact premiere date has yet to be announced.
