Jack Reacher has barely had time to replace his toothbrush after Season 4, but Prime Video is already lining up another job for him. ‘Reacher‘ has been renewed for Season 6, just 12 days after the fourth season’s finale and four months after the streamer ordered Season 5.
That makes two renewals in one year for the first time in the show’s history. It also gives the team a head start on keeping Jack Reacher on our screens regularly, which seems sensible when this many people are watching.
According to Amazon, Season 4 reached 66 million viewers worldwide in its first 28 days, beating Season 3’s performance. Some 58% of that audience was outside the US, with the UK among the countries where the season performed particularly well. Amazon says Seasons 2 and 4 are also among Prime Video’s five most watched seasons of any original series.
The US figures have been hefty too. The show has passed one billion minutes viewed on Nielsen’s weekly streaming chart for five consecutive weeks, taking the top spot in four of them. Its latest weekly total was 1.18 billion minutes. Reacher may travel light, but the viewing numbers certainly don’t.
Season 5 is already filming in Toronto, having started production in July. It adapts Make Me, the 20th novel in Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series. Prime Video has yet to reveal which book Season 6 will tackle, so readers can begin placing their bets.
For anyone catching up, Season 4 adapted Gone Tomorrow. A chance encounter with a distressed stranger on a subway pulled Jack Reacher, played by Alan Ritchson (Titans), into a deadly conspiracy involving some powerful enemies.
The show has also produced the spin-off ‘Neagley‘, starring Maria Sten (Swamp Thing). Reports suggest that a second season is looking promising, although Prime Video has not announced a renewal for that one yet.
