‘The Last of Us’ has added John Goodman, Ian Alexander and Laura Bailey to its third season. For players of The Last of Us Part II, two of those names will sound very familiar, although they won’t be playing the characters you might expect.
Goodman (The Conners) will play Joey, while Alexander (The OA) will play Paco. They’re a friendly duo who call themselves the “Heroes of the Highway”. In the world of ‘The Last of Us’, we’d probably wait to see how that nickname holds up before accepting a lift.
Bailey (The Legend of Vox Machina) joins as Elizabeth, one of the leaders of the Seraphites, the religious group set to feature in Abby’s side of the story. Bailey voiced Abby in The Last of Us Part II, while Alexander voiced Lev. On screen, those roles belong to Kaitlyn Dever and Kyriana Kratter respectively.
The series has brought game performers across before. Merle Dandridge and Jeffrey Wright reprised their roles as Marlene and Isaac, while Ashley Johnson, the games’ Ellie, appeared in the first season as Ellie’s mother. This time, Bailey and Alexander get the slightly unusual experience of entering a story they already know as entirely different people.
They join a growing Season 3 cast that includes Li Jun Li as Seraphite Miriam, Peter Sarsgaard as Seraphite leader Amon, Jason Ritter as WLF soldier Hanley and Patrick Wilson as Abby’s father, Jerry. Jorge Lendeborg will take over the role of Manny from Danny Ramirez, who could not return due to scheduling.
Season 3 is expected to explore more of Abby’s story following the second season’s finale. Craig Mazin will serve as sole showrunner after co-creating and running the first two seasons with The Last of Us game creator Neil Druckmann. It could also be the series’ last season, although HBO has yet to confirm that.
‘The Last of Us’ Season 3 is expected to premiere in 2027 on Sky Atlantic, NOW and HBO Max in the UK. An exact date has not been announced.
