‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Season 2 Trailer Introduces Brian Cox & Dan Stevens’ New Killers

by Dave Elliott

Paramount+ has released the full trailer for ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Season 2, and Dexter Morgan has rather more to worry about than getting his eyes tested. Returning this October, the new season introduces killers played by Brian Cox (‘Succession’) and Dan Stevens (‘Downton Abbey’, ‘The Guest’), brings a familiar threat back to New York, and gives our favourite serial killer something he probably cannot solve with plastic sheeting: a midlife crisis.

Michael C. Hall (‘Six Feet Under’) returns as Dexter, who is now firmly in his 50s and beginning to feel his age. The trailer finds him being fitted for glasses, but his Dark Passenger is still very much in working order. Unfortunately, so are several other people’s murderous tendencies, leaving the Big Apple with an alarmingly competitive serial killer scene.

Two New Killers, Two Very Different Problems

Leading the new arrivals is Brian Cox as Don Framt, otherwise known as the New York Ripper. A killer who terrorised the city years earlier, Framt brings decades of notoriety and a lengthy history of murder into Dexter’s orbit. Having spent years watching Cox make family gatherings thoroughly uncomfortable as Logan Roy, seeing him enter Dexter’s world feels like a particularly promising piece of casting.

At the other end of the experience spectrum is Dan Stevens as Owen Stark, the Five Borough Killer. He represents a younger threat making his name in New York, with methods that promise to give Dexter a fresh set of problems.

That contrast sits at the heart of Season 2. Dexter is caught between an established killer with a lifetime of victims behind him and a newer arrival carving out his own reputation. For someone already wrestling with getting older, discovering that the local murder scene has both a veteran and an ambitious newcomer probably does very little for the ego.

The trailer leans into that uncomfortable mixture of danger and wounded pride. Dexter has survived plenty over the years, but feeling overlooked while younger killers attract attention is a rather different challenge. Most people might respond by buying an unnecessarily expensive car. Dexter’s coping mechanisms tend to require considerably more clean-up.

Charley Returns With Unfinished Business

There is also a familiar face back in town, as Uma Thurman (‘Kill Bill’) returns as Charley. Her appearance in the trailer makes it clear that Dexter’s unfinished business has not conveniently disappeared between seasons, and she is looking to settle the score.

Meanwhile, Wallace and Oliva remain on Dexter’s trail, adding another layer of pressure while he navigates his new rivals. Between people investigating him, people threatening him and people competing with him, finding time for that optometrist appointment is beginning to look like an achievement.

Jack Alcott (‘The Good Lord Bird’) also returns as Harrison, who continues his own pursuit of justice. The new season promises a particularly dark chapter for father and son, keeping their relationship central even as the expanding cast brings fresh dangers into their lives.

More Familiar Faces And New Arrivals

Cox and Stevens are not the only additions to ‘Dexter: Resurrection’. Gabriel Luna (‘The Last of Us’) joins in a guest role as another serial killer, Ray Ballard, while Bokeem Woodbine (‘Fargo’) plays Captain Mixon and Nona Parker Johnson (‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’) plays Fiona Mixon.

Desmond Harrington (‘Elementary’) has been promoted to series regular for Season 2, meaning more Joey Quinn following his brief appearance in the first season. Krysten Ritter (‘Jessica Jones’) is also returning as Mia LaPierre, although how she figures into the new episodes remains under wraps.

The returning ensemble includes Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine (‘The Chi’), Kadia Saraf (‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’), Dominic Fumusa (‘Nurse Jackie’) and James Remar (‘Black Lightning’). Clyde Phillips returns as showrunner and executive producer.

‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Season 2 premieres Friday, 30th October 2026 on Paramount+ in the UK and US.
