‘VisionQuest’ Trailer Sends Vision On The Run As Marvel’s Disney+ Trilogy Reaches Its Conclusion

by Dave Elliott

Marvel Television has released a new trailer for ‘VisionQuest‘, which arrives on Disney+ this October to bring the trilogy that began with ‘WandaVision’ and continued with ‘Agatha All Along’ to its conclusion. And if Vision was hoping a reboot might give him a quieter life, having Ultron lurking in his programming probably wasn’t the ideal starting point…

Paul Bettany (‘WandaVision’) returns as the android Avenger, who has escaped from the people seeking to weaponise him and has been living in hiding. However, keeping a low profile becomes rather difficult when someone puts a bounty on your head. Vision is soon forced back out into the world, with both his survival and some very complicated questions about his identity on the agenda.

His travelling companion adds another wrinkle. Thomas Shepherd is a mysterious boy who may be Vision’s son, reincarnated, making this considerably more involved than your average father-and-son road trip. Before Vision can work out what their connection means, he has to keep them out of the hands of whoever is pursuing him. Parenting is tricky enough without adding a wanted poster and an existential crisis.

The official synopsis sets up a story in which Vision must confront his own nature, resist Ultron’s influence and unravel the mystery surrounding Thomas. That gives ‘VisionQuest’ a potentially intriguing balance: a chase on the outside, and an argument about what makes Vision who he is on the inside. For a character whose existence has always involved rather more assembly than most Avengers, there’s plenty to unpack.

Helping, or possibly hindering, that search for meaning are the AI personas embedded in his programming. The familiar names include F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H. and J.A.R.V.I.S., alongside the decidedly less reassuring Ultron. Most of us would be fairly concerned if our internal support team included a murderous artificial intelligence. Vision apparently has to put up with the meetings.

James Spader(‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’) returns as Ultron, bringing one of Marvel’s most distinctive villains back into Vision’s orbit. The prospect of that relationship being explored again is a particularly appealing part of the premise. Ultron’s presence also raises an obvious problem for an android trying to decide his own future: how much influence does a voice from his past still have?

The series follows ‘WandaVision’ in 2021 and ‘Agatha All Along’ in 2024, with Marvel positioning it as the final chapter of that television trilogy. Each instalment has approached the wider story from a different character’s perspective, and now it is Vision’s turn to take centre stage. The possible connection to his son gives this chapter a family mystery alongside the science fiction.

Joining Bettany and Spader in the cast are Ruaridh Mollica (‘Sebastian’), Todd Stashwick (‘Star Trek: Picard’), T’Nia Miller (‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’), Diane Morgan (‘Motherland’), Emily Hampshire (‘Schitt’s Creek’) and James D’Arcy (‘Agent Carter’). That is quite a collection of familiar faces to bring into Vision’s latest attempt to make sense of himself.

Terry Matalas, whose previous work includes ‘Star Trek: Picard’, created the series for television based on the Marvel Comics. He also joins Christopher J. Byrne, Gandja Monteiro and Vincenzo Natali on directing duties. The writing team consists of Matalas, Cindy Appel, Christopher Monfette, Nicole Falsetti and Matthew Okumura.

With a bounty to escape, a possible son to protect and Ultron offering the sort of advice you would probably want to double-check, Vision certainly has enough to keep him occupied. You can watch the new trailer above before the final part of Marvel’s trilogy arrives later this month.

‘VisionQuest‘ premieres Wednesday, 14th October 2026 on Disney+.
