‘Game Of Thrones’ Talk Finale Season Directors & Spin-Offs *Could* Air In 2019!

As we settle into a long wait whilst winter takes its sweet time getting here, a few bits of news have landed regarding the directors for Game Of Thrones finale season, and air dates for the 5 possible spin-off series!

‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 8 is getting 6 supersized episodes for its last outing, believed to be due next year at some point. Now they have finalised the list of people who with be guiding the show to its conclusion. Series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are expected to direct the finale, which will shot multiple endings to put off spoilers. Miguel Sapochnik, who directed ‘Hardhome’ and the Emmy winning ‘Battle of the Bastards’ will take some episodes, as will David Nutter, who has directed multiple episodes including Cersei’s walk of atonement in ‘Mother’s Mercy’. Reports are saying the finale episodes will cost at least $15 million per episode, but the real budget may actually be even higher… They’re certainly preparing to go out with a bang!

With the main show coming to a close, HBO has set 5 potential prequel series in the works, exploring different historical time periods in the world of Westeros. Already announced as working on pilot scripts are Jane Goldman, the brilliant writer of ‘X-Men: First Class’, ‘Kick-Ass’, the ‘Kingsman’ movies, (and wife of Jonathan Ross); Max Borenstein, the writer of the recent ‘Godzilla’ film, ‘Kong: Skull Island’ and the ‘Minority Report’ tv series; Brian Helgeland, the man who penned 2010’s ‘Robin Hood’, ‘Man on Fire’, ‘L.A. Confidential’ and ‘A Knight’s Tale’; And Carly Wray, who wrote a number of episodes of ‘Mad Men’, ‘The Bastard Executioner’, and is writing on Season 2 of ‘Westworld’. It’s now been revealed that veteran ‘Game Of Thrones’ writer Bryan Cogman will be joining them as the scribe behind the 5th potential spin-off. Cogman also served as GoT’s “Keeper of the Lore”, so if anyone knows the intricacies of Thrones history, it’s him!

However, just because there are 5 spin-offs in the works, that doesn’t mean we’re going to get 5 spin-off shows. George R.R. Martin took to his Facebook page recently to say “You should not expect to see all five shows, though, at least not immediately.. much as I might love the idea, HBO is not about to become the GAME OF THRONES network… but we could possibly see two or even three make it to the pilot stage, with one series emerging on air in 2019 or 2020… and the others maybe later, if they come out as well as we all hope.” He does go on to add “Then again, maybe… but I should not speculate, you folks get WAY too excited.”

Yes, we do George… yes we do…
