by Dave Elliott

It’s been a bit of a wait, but BBC TWO has finally set a UK air date for The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.

This 2nd instalment of ‘American Crime Story’ follows the Bafta, Emmy and Golden Globe-winning ‘The People Vs OJ Simpson’, and profiles the cross-country path of destruction that culminated in the murder of an international fashion icon.

In 1990, an enthusiastic Andrew Cunanan (Darren Criss – ‘Glee’, ‘The Flash’) – who changes identities and opinions depending on who he’s talking to – contrives an introduction to Gianni Versace (Edgar Ramirez – ‘Point Break’, ‘Zero Dark Thirty’) at an exclusive San Francisco nightclub, and wrangles a date to an opera which has been costumed by the famed designer.

Scroll forward 7 years, and on July 15, 1997, Versace is shot byAndrew on the steps of Versace’s Miami villa. As the killer flees, the media descends and the world reacts…

“With The People v. O.J. Simpson, the brilliant Ryan Murphy and his team crafted a unique and utterly compelling television event which managed to get the nation talking once more about one of the biggest cases in history,” commented Sue Deeks, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition. “It is with great anticipation that we welcome the next instalment of the American Crime Story franchise.”

The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story‘ premieres on BBC TWO from Wednesday, 28th February 2018 at 9pm.
