CBS Developing A Revival Of ‘Northern Exposure’

CBS has put into development a revival of hit 90’s show ‘Northern Exposure’ it has been revealed.

For those of you unfamiliar with the series, it starred Rob Morrow (‘Numb3rs’, ‘Designated Survivor’) as Joel Fleischman, a shy, fresh-faced medical school graduate from New York City. He’s about to begin the four-year service contract he promised to the state of Alaska, who financed his education. However, he, unfortunately, forgot to read the small print in his contract, which has assigned him to the remote town of Cicely, Alaska. As he contends with the daily lives and rituals of these all too normal and trusting folk, Joel just might realise that Cicely’s quieter ways are probably more civilised than the hustle and bustle of Manhattan.

The revival comes from original series co-creators Josh Brand and John Falsey, along with Morrow, John Corbett (who played philosophical ex-convict and DJ Chris Stevens on the show), producer Ben Silverman and Universal TV. Brand is writing the revival which will centre on Dr. Fleischman returning to Cicely, Alaska, for the funeral of an old friend, and who finds a new set of quirky characters and reunites with old ones in a continuation of the classic series.

The comedy-drama originally ran on CBS for 110-episode from 1990 to 1995. Over that period it picked up 57 award nominations, winning multiple Emmys and Golden Globes. If it goes to series, ‘Northern Exposure’ would be the latest in a long line of recent revival shows including ‘Roseanne’‘Will & Grace’, and the upcoming ‘Veronica Mars’, to name but a few.

The ‘Northern Exposure’ revival is still only at the development stage right now, but we’ll let you know if it goes any further.
