‘The Walking Dead’ Renewed For A 10th Season

Not that it was ever really in doubt, but The Walking Dead will keep on walking, as AMC announces the zombie drama will return for a 10th Season.

Season 9 has seen some major changes to the show, both in front of and behind the camera. On screen, we lost Maggie (Lauren Cohen) and the big man himself, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln). They also ended the first half of Season 9 with another surprise death of… someone who shall remain nameless for now to avoid spoilers. Behind the scenes, Angela Kang took over the role of showrunner from Scott M. Gimple, who has moved up to become chief content officer for the entire franchise.

It was Kang who made the announcement, posting a video to her Instagram account:

Whilst you may have heard stories of TWD’s viewing figures tanking over the last few seasons, it’s been clear for a while that the show wasn’t going anywhere. Season 9 has average viewing figures of 7.82m, which is the lowest since Season 2, and half what it was in it’s Season 5 hayday. However, it is still… by far… the highest rated show on AMC. Plus, the 2nd highest rated show on the network is the spin-off ‘Fear The Walking Dead’. AMC is not going to let this franchise die any time soon. Not when they have plans for more shows, Rick Grimes movies, and various other media in the works.

As we head back in to Season 9 next week, the survivors encounter a terrifying new threat. Everything they thought they knew about survival in this post-apocalyptic world will be challenged… Can you hear whispering?…

The Walking Dead‘ Season 9, part 2 premieres Monday, 11th February 2019 at 9pm on Fox UK.
