The 5 Best Games Based On TV Shows

We’ve seen plenty of video game adaptations of films and television shows over the last decade or so, with this type of production now far more commonplace than ever before.

In fact, the lines have been blurred between various types of media in recent times, with a host of Marvel comics have subsequently been adapted for everything from TV and film to video and slot games.

But what are the best games of all time that have been based on TV shows? Here’s our breakdown of the top five!

The Simpsons: Hit & Run

Whilst The Simpsons remains enduringly popular to this day, it’s not quite the cultural phenomenon it was back in the 1990s.

During its peak, it certainly inspired a number of video games, the pick of which was the intriguingly titled ‘The Simpsons: Hit & Run’. Combining the unique elements of the The Simpsons and Grand Theft Auto, it allows you to take control of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa or Apu and investigate strange happenings in the town of Springfield.

Of course, the game is far less violent and intense than any GTA title, but it retains the same first-person narrative and innate sense of fun.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is another 90’s classic that spawned numerous games, with the fourth iteration (Chaos Bleeds) considered to be the best.

This title is also one of the best of any franchise, as it was based on the stellar fifth season of the show and allowed players to assume control of various characters from the show for the first time.

This is also a well-made game with excellent graphics, so there’s plenty to enjoy whether you’re a fan of the show or not.

Game of Thrones

Whilst Game of Thrones (GoT) may be a more recent TV sensation, it has also managed to spawn a huge number of games during the last few years.

From video games and slots that can be played with betandskill no deposit bonuses online, the virtual world is awash with variation iterations of GoT that have managed to capture the public’s imagination.

However, we’d recommend Telltale Game’s take on the adventure series, as this high quality episodic adventure is genuinely immersive and enables players to directly affect the Westeros story arc.

South Park: The Stick of Truth

Now we come to what may be the most loyal and faithful video game adaptations of all-time, with South Park’s The Stick of Truth both hilarious and played out on the show’s iconic 2D universe.

Packed full of references from the first 17 seasons of the show, The Stick of Truth is even packaged differently across the globe as some scenes have had to be cut in instances where they’re too offensive for certain audiences.

The game also features a host of top characters, which add to the title’s authenticity and really help it to pack a punch.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time

We close with the best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game, which is based on yet another classic that ran throughout the 1990s.

The game was the sequel to a similarly excellent original, although it retains a slight edge on its predecessor due to its side-scrolling, beat ‘em up set-up.

Button mashing is definitely the aim here, just as it is with all classic arcade fighters. However, its colorful graphics and levels of gameplay elevate it onto an entirely new level, so we’d definitely recommend it if you’re a fan of the show!
