‘Manifest’: Hopes Of Rescue Dashed As Netflix Passes On Mystery Drama

It looks like Manifest is grounded for good, as news arrives that Netflix has passed on picking up the show for a 4th Season…

‘Manifest’ followed a turbulent but routine flight of the crew and passengers of Flight 828. However, when they disembarked they found the world had aged five-and-a-half years and their friends, families and colleagues had given up hope of ever seeing them again. Faced with the impossible, the passengers’ dreams of a second chance at life evaporated as they encounter the imminent danger surrounding them, both tangible and unexplained. But as their new realities become clear, a deeper mystery unfolds, and some of the returned passengers soon realise they might be meant for something greater than they ever thought possible.

Earlier this week it was revealed that Netflix were in talks with WBTV, who make the drama, about possibly picking the series up for a 4th Season following its cancellation by NBC. Unfortunately, those talks have ended with Netflix passing on the series, despite the fact the first two seasons, which are currently airing in a second-run window in the USA on the streamer, had been sat at the number one spot. WBTV has also tried to gain interest from other streaming services, but have had no luck, meaning it is officially dead.

The cast and crew have been taking to social media to talk about the cancellation, and failure to find a new home. Creator/Showrunner Jeff Rake posted on Twitter “Manifest Gratitude, Final Edition. Thank YOU, our fans. You became the Manifesters at Comic-Con 2018. Ever since, you’ve watched religiously, parsed every word, cried a lot, laughed a little, puzzle-solved, and never, ever, wavered in your support. I’ll never forget it.” He’d previously posted about being devastated over the NBC cancellation, especially as he had laid out plans for a six-season arc. He commented, “That we’ve been shut down in the middle is a gut punch, to say the least.”

The stars also wanted to thank the fans. “Well, my #manifesters, I’m sorry to say that it’s the end of the line for now,” commented star Josh Dallas on Instagram.  “We are so very proud to have brought you this story over 3 seasons. We so wished we could’ve finished the journey with you. But it wasn’t in the cards. Thanks to our incredible EP’s, producers, writers, directors, stunning cast and the best damn crew in the business. Thanks to @warnerbrostv and @nbc for giving us a home. And lastly, thank you to the fans who embraced #manifest and these characters and flew with us on #flight828. I love you all… onwards! Ben Stone, out.”

That sentiment was echoed by Melissa Roxburgh, who posted to Twitter “Oh, to put into words the last three years… Thanks for everyone who joined on with us. I’m forever grateful for the family of misfits and creators that wound up at Silvercup studios. When you film a show, you spend all day every day with these people… They truly become your family, your friends, your therapists, your entertainment….everything.You guys have no idea what you’ll forever mean to me. I’ve had some of the greatest days of my life on the stages of Manifest, playing pretend with people who have seeped into my heart. Thank you Jeff Rake and our producers for giving us this dream. I’ll forever cherish the moments we laughed, cried, talked…convulsed in our “callings”, had blood pour out of our eyes, stayed up all night in the cold of NY… thank you to the audience who kept us playing.”

Manifest‘ 3rd (and now, final) Season is due to land in July 2021 on Sky One. Seasons 1 and 2 are available now via Sky One Demand and the NOW streaming service.
