‘Superman & Lois’ Finally Lands In The UK… On BBC One/iPlayer This December!
Is it a bird?.. is it a plane?.. No, it’s ‘Superman & Lois‘ FINALLY getting a UK broadcaster as the BBC reveal the superhero drama will premiere on BBC One and iPlayer this December!
After years of facing megalomaniacal supervillains, monsters wreaking havoc on Metropolis, and alien invaders intent on wiping out the human race, the world’s most famous superhero, The Man of Steel aka Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin, ‘Teen Wolf’) and comic books’ most famous journalist, Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch, ‘Grimm’), come face-to-face with one of their greatest challenges ever – dealing with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society.
Complicating the already daunting job of raising two boys, Clark and Lois must also concern themselves with whether or not their sons Jonathan (Jordan Elsass, ‘Little Fires Everywhere’) and Jordan (Alexander Garfin, ‘The Peanuts Movie’) could inherit their father’s Kryptonian superpowers as they grow older. Returning to Smallville to handle some Kent family business, Clark and Lois are reacquainted with Lana Lang (Emmanuelle Chriqui, ‘Entourage’), a local loan officer who also happens to be Clark’s first love, and her Fire Chief husband Kyle Cushing (Erik Valdez, ‘Graceland’).
The adults aren’t the only ones rediscovering old friendships in Smallville as the Kent sons are reacquainted with Lana and Kyle’s rebellious daughter, Sarah (Inde Navarrette, ‘Wander Darkly’). Of course, there’s never a dull moment in the life of a superhero, especially with Lois’ father, General Samuel Lane (Dylan Walsh, ‘Nip/Tuck’) looking for Superman to vanquish a villain or save the day at a moment’s notice. Meanwhile, Superman and Lois’ return to idyllic Smallville is set to be upended when a mysterious stranger (Wolé Parks, ‘All American’) enters their lives.
“Superman & Lois is an ambitious and involving new superhero series – one we are sure will intrigue and excite not just existing fans, but BBC viewers of all ages,” commented Sue Deeks, BBC Head of Programme Acquisition.
Based on the characters from DC created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, ‘Superman & Lois’ is written and executive produced by Todd Helbing (‘The Flash’) and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns. The series is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
‘Superman & Lois‘ Season 1 premieres Saturday, 4th December 2021 at 5.40pm on BBC One, with all episodes available on iPlayer from the same date.

Nooooooooooooooo! This is the worst news ever, the BBC are the worst!!!!! The HD for on demand/iplayer is messed up with so many of their US acquisitions! I knew that this would be either BBC or E4, I was hoping E4 even though they have a weird broadcast schedule of some shows, at least it would def be in HD.
This is great news. Having seen season one and loved it, I think the concerns of it being cut to shreds are unwarranted. I can see some of the ‘teen’ conversations that deal with topics of suicide and drinking being cut but none of the action scenes or overall story would be unsuitable for children.
Also while this is part of the arrowverse suite of shows it’s very standalone and you need to know nothing from the other shows to watch.
I think it’s great to have a show again on Saturday early evening that the whole family can engage in some escapism together. Miss those days.
I suspect the iPlayer version of it won’t be cut, only the broadcast version anyway. I’ve seen a few episodes and I do think it’s a good pick up for the BBC.
Maybe it won’t have any drastic cuts and I would certainly be glad if such concerns turned out to be unwarranted but it would be nice if the BBC could just let it air uncut. If American viewers can handle topics such as suicide and drinking coming up in this show, then I’m sure viewers elsewhere can as well without those scenes being sanitised for kids by the BBC. Even if only minor cuts get made the fact they’re being made at all would suggest the 5:40pm slot is too early.
While no knowledge of other Arrowverse shows is required right now, I would be surprised if Superman & Lois didn’t become involved in future Arrowverse crossovers at some point. That could be problematic for viewers who only have free-to-air channels, as previous crossovers like Crisis on Infinite Earths have contained important plot elements for several of these shows.
Really odd that the Beeb picked this up with the others with Sky and Channel 4. Maybe they think it’s similar to Lois & Clark – standalone, and not part of a greater whole (Arrowverse)? Also the early timeslot isn’t good.
I suspect the BBC’s awareness of what DC shows and most US shows in general are about consists of what’s in the title and not much more. If a crossover episode happens in a future season of Superman & Lois they will probably just remove it and only show it after the season has finished, like E4 did with the crossover episode in Batwoman Season 1.
Literally the worst possible choice for me as I don’t have a TV licence (due to only using Netflix/Disney+ etc on-demand which legally doesn’t require one). The BBC should be blocked from acquiring US TV shows. 5:40pm as well which means the BBC think its a kids show, that’s earlier than Doctor Who has been shown in the past. It’ll be cut to shreds at that time, every Arrowverse show so far has at least one season that’s rated 15.
