The brilliantly weird Kat Dennings-led comedy ‘Dollface‘ will not be back for Season 3 it has been revealed today. The comedy aired on Hulu in the USA and Disney+ worldwide.
‘Dollface’ starred Dennings (‘2 Broke Girls’, ‘WandaVision’) as Jules, a young woman who – after being dumped by her longtime boyfriend – must deal with her own imagination in order to literally and metaphorically re-enter the world of women, and rekindle the female friendships she left behind.
The second season, which only launched in February, followed Jules and her best friends – post-pandemic, post heartbreak, heading toward turning thirty. Having successfully reunited with her friends (Brenda Song, Shay Mitchell, and Esther Povitsky), Jules had to now balance keeping their group together as the women navigated work, love, and a deeper relationship with each of themselves.
The comedy had such a wonderfully weird edge to it, as Jules lived in the real world, but also was interjected with strange fantasy elements, usually revolving around a “cat lady” (played by Beth Grant) – not a lady that collects cats, but someone with the head of a cat – who acted as a sort of mentor/soundboard for her thoughts. As Hulu does not release viewing figures, we don’t know if that was the reason for the cancellation, but it was a really fun show which deserved a longer run.
The series was created by Jordan Weiss, who serves as an executive producer alongside showrunner Michelle Nader; Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara for LuckyChap Entertainment; Bryan Unkeless and Scott Morgan for Clubhouse Pictures; Kat Dennings; and Nicole King. ‘Dollface’ is produced by ABC Signature.
‘Dollface‘ Seasons 1 and 2 can be found on Disney+ UK and Hulu in the USA.
