Sky & NOW have set a September premiere date for This England, a limited series drama co-written and directed by Michael Winterbottom and stars BAFTA and Academy Award-winner Kenneth Branagh.

The events in government are interwoven with first-hand testimonies from around the UK, from the experts and scientists racing against time to understand the virus; the doctors, nurses and care-home workers on the frontline working tirelessly and heroically to contain and overcome it; and ordinary people whose lives were thrown into turmoil.

Acclaimed filmmaker Michael Winterbottom (‘The Trip to…’ series) co-wrote the series with Kieron Quirke (‘Cuckoo’, ‘Defending the Guilty’), and directed all five episodes. Winterbottom also exec produces alongside Richard Brown (for Passenger). Melissa Parmenter (for Revolution Films) produces alongside Josh Hyams and Anthony Wilcox. Tim Shipman, political editor of The Sunday Times, acted as a consultant on the series.

The series was commissioned for Sky by Zai Bennett, Sky UK’s Managing Director of Content. Gabriel Silver, is the Senior Commissioning Editor for Sky Studios.

This England‘ is set to premiere Wednesday, 21st September 2022 on Sky Atlantic and on streaming service NOW with an Entertainment pass.
