I know this seems like a joke or clickbait headline, but I can assure you, it is very real and confirmed… Henry Cavill himself has said he will be stepping away from the role of Geralt of Rivia, as Netflix hands the drama a Season 4 renewal.
“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for season 4,” said Cavill in a statement. “In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”
Cavill recently revealed he would be returning to the role of Superman for James Gunn & Peter Safran’s newly invigorated DC Studios, which could possibly be the reason he has found himself needing to hand over the role of Geralt. The actor has been a huge fan of the books and games on which the series is based, so this can not have been an easy decision.
Liam Hemsworth, who will be stepping into the role, is probably best known for ‘The Hunger Games’ films, Nick Santora’s ‘Most Dangerous Game’, and, of course, being the youngest of the three Hemsworth brothers!
“As a Witcher fan, I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia,” said Liam. “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world. ”

The new prequel series set in an elven world 1200 years before the events of ‘The Witcher’. Blood Origin will tell a story lost to time – exploring the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal “Conjunction of the Spheres,” when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.
We don’t yet have a premiere date for ‘The Witcher‘ Season 3 but will air in Summer 2023. If you want to keep track of these or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.
