‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ & ‘Lower Decks’ Renewed For New Seasons & Get Summer Premiere Dates

Good news for Star Trek fans! Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been renewed for Season 3, and Star Trek: Lower Decks has been renewed for Season 5, both before the next seasons have even aired! In addition, those next seasons of both shows are getting global launches this Summer on Paramount+.

‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’, is based on the years Captain Christopher Pike manned the helm of the U.S.S. Enterprise. The series features fan favourites Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock. The series follows Captain Pike, Science Officer Spock and Number One in the years before Captain Kirk boarded the U.S.S. Enterprise, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy.

The drama also stars Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel, Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh, Celia Rose Gooding as Cadet Nyota Uhura, Melissa Navia as Lt. Erica Ortegas and Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M’Benga. Season two also features the return of special guest star Paul Wesley as James T. Kirk and new addition Carol Kane in a recurring role as Pelia.

Created by Emmy Award winner Mike McMahan (‘Rick and Morty’, ‘Solar Opposites’), in season four of ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’, an unknown force is destroying starships and threatening galactic peace. Luckily, the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos isn’t important enough for stuff like that! Instead, Ensigns Mariner, Boimler, Tendi, Rutherford and Provisional Ensign T’Lyn are keeping up with their Starfleet duties, avoiding malevolent computers, and getting stuck in a couple caves – all while encountering new and classic aliens along the way.

The Starfleet crew residing in the “lower decks” of the U.S.S. Cerritos includes Ensign Beckett Mariner, voiced by Tawny Newsome; Ensign Brad Boimler, voiced by Jack Quaid; Ensign Tendi, voiced by Noël Wells; and Ensign Rutherford, voiced by Eugene Cordero. The Starfleet characters that comprise the U.S.S. Cerritos’ bridge crew include Captain Carol Freeman, voiced by Dawnn Lewis; Commander Jack Ransom, voiced by Jerry O’Connell; Lieutenant Shaxs, voiced by Fred Tatasciore; and Doctor T’Ana, voiced by Gillian Vigman.

As previously announced, Season 2 of ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds‘ includes a special crossover episode featuring both live-action and animation, with ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Ensign Beckett Mariner and Ensign Brad Boimler joining the U.S.S. Enterprise. The episode was directed by ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ and ‘Star Trek: Picard’ actor, director, and excellent beard-wearer, Jonathan Frakes.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds‘ Season 2 will premiere Thursday, 15th June 2023 on Paramount+ in the U.S, the U.K., Australia, Latin America, Brazil, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks‘ Season 4 will premiere in August 2023 (exact date TBC), also on Paramount+.
