First Image Released Of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine In ‘Deadpool 3’
The first official image of Hugh Jackman’s return to the role of Wolverine in ‘Deadpool 3’ has been released by Ryan Reynolds on social media this evening, and features the star in the classic yellow suit… oh, and that Reynolds guy is in the photo as Deadpool too.
This is the first time Jackman has been seen as the X-Men character since he originally hung up his adamantium claws after the 2017 movie ‘Logan’. Jackman first took on the role of Wolverine way back in 2000 for the original FOX ‘X-Men’ film, then reprised it in 2003’s ‘X2’, ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ (2006), ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ (2009), and ‘The Wolverine’ (2013).
23 years later he returns to the part, looking like he hasn’t aged a day, however, this is the first time he has actually worn the iconic, classic, yellow comicbook accurate suit on screen. The only slight difference to the comicbook version is this one has yellow sleeves, whereas, in most of the comic versions, Wolverine has bare arms. It still looks amazing though! We also don’t see the classic Wolverine mask in the photo, but one has to assume that is also going to show up on-screen too.
We have no idea on the exact plot of ‘Deadpool 3’ yet so we can really only speculate, but given some of the other casting reveals recently, we are assuming it is going to have some sort of multiverse element to it, which would fit with the current MCU plotlines. It seems unlikely Jackman will continue as Wolverine after this, and it may act as a sort of swansong for the FOX X-Men/Marvel universe… possibly using Deadpool to somehow “destroy” the FOX reality and introduce those characters into the MCU with a new cast.
Outside of various rumours, the other officially confirmed cast includes Morena Baccarin returning as Vanessa, Stefan Kapacic as Colossus, and Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Also confirmed as returning are Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, and Rob Delaney as Peter. Additionally, Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen have been cast in undisclosed roles.
Shawn Levy is set to direct, having previously worked with Reynolds on the films ‘The Adam Project’ and ‘Free Guy’, and Jackman on ‘Real Steel’. Paul Wernick & Rhett Reese, who wrote on the previous two films, return to pen the script, and are joined by screen and comicbook writer Zeb Wells (‘The Marvels’, ‘She-Hulk’). Levy, Feige and Reynolds are the producers.
‘Deadpool 3’ is currently scheduled to land in cinemas in May 2024.
