ITVX Picks Up ‘Orphan Black: Echoes’ Series For The UK

ITVX has picked up the UK broadcast right to Orphan Black: Echoes, the highly anticipated spin-off to the much beloved BBC America clone-drama, which stars Krysten Ritter in the leading role.

Set in the near future, ‘Orphan Black: Echos’ takes a deep dive into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence. It follows a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal.

Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) plays Lucy, a woman with an unimaginable origin story, trying to find her place in the world. She will also exec produce on the drama.

Ritter is joined by Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard, The Durrells, Line of Duty) who plays a perceptive but sensitive scientist who finds herself at odds with her own moral code when circumstances lead her to make an unthinkable choice. Other cast includes Amanda Fix (High School) as Jules, a salty teen trying to find herself. The newly adopted daughter of wealthy parents, Jules is tough as nails, a little reckless but brutally smart; And Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Lucy’s boyfriend Jack, a soft-spoken former army medic and single father. He’s devoted his life to raising his daughter and discovers the woman he loves has an unimaginable secret.

The acquisition comes from producer Boat Rocker, who has not only sold the drama to ITVX in the UK, but also to various broadcasters around the world including Stan (Australia), PCCW Media (Hong Kong SAR and Macau), TVNZ (New Zealand), NPO (Netherlands), Orange (France), and Syfy (various European and African territories). The ten-episode first season premieres on AMC+ in the USA.

“We at ITV are so pleased to be able to offer Orphan Black: Echoes as an ITVX exclusive in coming months, providing our audiences with a thrilling voyage into the future with an incredible cast of characters,” commented ITV head of content acquisitions, Sasha Breslau.

The original series starred Tatiana Maslany, who won an Emmy for her epic, phenomenal, tour-de-force performance as regular “clone” characters Sarah, Alison, Cosima, Helena and Rachel, plus a number of other clones they met along the way. Entertainingly, Maslany and Ritter have ended up jumping across each other’s franchises, with Ritter joining ‘Orphan Black’, whilst Maslany moved to Marvel to play ‘She-Hulk’.

“We’re delighted with the strong response from global buyers for Orphan Black: Echoes,” adds Jon Rutherford, President, Global Rights, Franchise, and Content Strategy, Boat Rocker Studios. “We’re fortunate to be offering buyers a well-established Orphan Black universe that has built-in familiarity with viewers. With a top-notch cast, rich characters, and strong storylines, this series is one that global audiences are sure to enjoy.”

Anna Fishko (‘Pieces of Her’, ‘The Society’, ‘Fear the Walking Dead’) is creator, writer, showrunner and executive producer of ‘Orphan Black: Echoes’ with John Fawcett, the co-creator of the original series who also directed 17 episodes across all five seasons, as director and executive producer. David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg, executive producers from Boat Rocker on the original Orphan Black series, return as executive producers on the new series. Katie O’Connell Marsh, Nick Nantell, and Kerry Appleyard will also executive produce for Boat Rocker.

Orphan Black: Echoes‘ does not yet have a premiere date in the UK or the USA at the moment, but is due to land at some point in 2023 on AMC+ in the USA. The series will air in the UK as an ITVX exclusive. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.
