John Krasinski Returning As ‘Jack Ryan’ In Feature Film From Amazon MGM Studios

by Dave Elliott

Whilst the Prime Video series has come to an end, it seems Amazon is not done with John Krasinski as ‘Jack Ryan’ just yet, as it’s announced Amazon MGM Studios are working on a feature film which sees the actor reprise the role.

The ‘Jack Ryan‘ series ran for 4 Seasons on Prime Video and featured Krasinski in the title role as the CIA analyst who can’t seem to stay out of trouble. Wendell Pierce has also signed on to return as James Greer, Ryan’s boss at the Terror Finance and Arms Division. The third member of the group, Michael Kelly, who played Mike November, is currently in negotiations to return.

There are no plot details for the film at the moment, but we do know Aaron Rabin, who worked as writer/exec producer on season four, is writing the script, while Andrew Bernstein, who was director/exec producer on season two, will be behind the camera.

Whilst Krasinski was the first actor to play Jack Ryan in a TV series, he followed in a long line of actors who have portrayed the character in the movies. Alec Baldwin first starred in 1990’s ‘The Hunt for Red October’, followed by multiple films from 1992–1994 starring Harrison Ford. Ben Affleck picked up the baton in 2002, followed by Chris Pine in 2014. However, it was really Ford’s “everyman hero” version of the character which was the main inspiration for Krasinski’s take on the role.

Tom Clancy wrote 16 Jack Ryan novels before his death in 2013. However, various other authors have been allowed to continue to play in the “Jack Ryan-verse”, penning 23 more books to date, with two more due to land this year and in 2025.

At the moment, it’s unclear if this would be a straight-to-Prime Video release or whether it would get a theatrical release first. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
