Steven Yeun (Beef, Minari) is heading back to Netflix for a rather unsettling bit of family drama, taking the lead role in upcoming series ‘Pagans‘, which comes from showrunner Joshua Zetumer.
Yeun will star as Gus, a single father struggling to raise his two children following the death of his wife. While his son appears to be a fairly typical kid, his daughter Alice is something else entirely, and their already strained relationship is about to take a much darker turn.
Netflix describes the series as follows:
“Pagans follows a man who becomes the sole caretaker of his two children after the tragic loss of his wife. While his son is typical, his daughter, Alice, is anything but. What starts as a strained father-daughter relationship soon evolves into something far more sinister. Equal parts emotional, horrifying and humorous, Pagans is a show that unearths all our darkest thoughts about family.”
That combination of family drama, horror and dark humour sounds like an interesting playground for Yeun, who will also executive produce ‘Pagans’ through Celadon Pictures alongside Christina Oh.
Yeun previously starred in and executive produced Netflix and A24’s acclaimed Beef alongside Ali Wong (Birds of Prey), picking up Emmy, Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice and SAG awards for his performance. He also received an Academy Award nomination for Minari, and his other recent film credits include Mickey 17, Nope, Burning and Sorry to Bother You. He is also set to appear alongside Ben Affleck (The Accountant) and Kerry Washington (Scandal) in Netflix film Animals.
Joshua Zetumer serves as showrunner and executive producer, with Drew Goddard and Sarah Esberg of Goddard Textiles, Jonathan van Tulleken and Erica Kay also executive producing.
Netflix has not yet announced a premiere date for ‘Pagans‘.
