After a little bit of a wait, Noah Centineo returns for Season 2 of Netflix’s action-packed espionage series ‘The Recruit‘ in January 2025.
From Alexi Hawley, creator of ‘The Rookie’, season one of the drama landed in 2022 and introduced us to Owen Hendricks (Noah Centineo – ‘Black Adam’, ‘The Fosters’), a young CIA lawyer whose first week on the job turns upside down when he discovers a threatening letter by former asset Max Meladze (Laura Haddock), who plans to expose the agency unless they exonerate her of a serious crime. Owen quickly becomes entangled in a dangerous and often absurd world of power politics and mischievous players, as he travels the world in hopes of completing his assignment and making a mark at the CIA.
Season Two of ‘The Recruit’ finds Hendricks pulled into a life-threatening espionage situation in South Korea, only to realize that the bigger threat just might be coming from inside the Agency…
“Owen rolls into this season basically screwed. Owen knows that if he does not walk away with a win this season, his career is going to be over,” comments creator Alexi Hawley. “He might go to prison. Depending on what people are into, they can show up this season for the big, flashy, splashy action stuff, but they can also be on a journey with this guy who’s just trying to fix something that he broke.”
The second season sees Centineo back as Hendricks, alongside Aarti Mann (Violet), Colton Dunn (Lester), Fivel Stewart (Hannah), Kristian Bruun (Janus), Kaylah Zander (Amelia), Angel Parker (Dawn) and Vondie Curtis-Hall (Walter). They are joined by Teo Yoo (Money Game, Past Lives), a man on a mission of his own, who will sacrifice everything for the people he loves, and Maddie Hasson (Impulse, The Finder), as Nichka, the volatile daughter of season one’s Max Meladze.
“Owen’s headspace is complete chaos. He has just witnessed Max – the former CIA asset whom he almost died multiple times trying to protect – get shot by her daughter Nichka,” comments Centineo. “Owen is wondering how in the hell he is going to survive the next few seconds of his life.”
The additional cast also has some familiar names including Nathan Fillion (Firefly, The Rookie) returning as the CIA Director Alton West, along with James Purefoy (Rome, Sex Education, Hap and Leonard), Young-Ah Kim (Maestra: Strings of Truth), Felix Solis (The Rookie: Feds), Do Hyun Shin (First Kiss, Doom at Your Service), Sanghee Lee (Our Love Story), Omar Maskati (Better Call Saul, Unbelievable), Brooke Smith (Bosch, Grotesquerie, Big Sky), Devika Bhise (The Rookie: Feds), Alana Hawley Purvis (Range Roads), Daniel Quincy Annoh, and Jesse Collin.
The big gap between seasons one and two was caused by the Hollywood strikes which affected the production. It’s also why this season is only six episodes, down from the first season which had eight.
Alexi Hawley serves as Creator, Showrunner and Executive Producer, with Doug Liman, Gene Klein, David Bartis, Adam Ciralsky, Charlie Ebersol, and Julian Holmes also exec producing. The season is directed by Julian Holmes, Jessica Yu, Viet Nguyen, John Hyams, and Alexi Hawley. The writers are Alexi Hawley, Maya Goldsmith, George Ghanem, Brian Oh, Sue Chung, and Hadi Deeb. Lionsgate Television is the studio.
‘The Recruit‘ Season 2 premieres Thursday, 30th January 2025 on Netflix UK and worldwide.
