Despite being renewed and three-quarters of the way through filming on Season 2, Apple TV+ has scrapped ‘The Completely Made-Up Adventures Of Dick Turpin‘ according to reports, after lead Noel Fielding apparently pulled out of filming.
Fielding (‘The Mighty Boosh’, ‘The Great British Bake Off’) starred as Dick Turpin, the legendary British highwayman. In the irreverent retelling, Dick is the most famous, but least likely of highway robbers, whose success is defined mostly by his charm, showmanship and great hair. Together with his gang of loveable rogues, Dick rides the highs and lows of celebrity — and does what he can to escape the clutches of the Thief-Taker General.
According to The Sun, which first reported the news, Noel didn’t return to work after the scheduled Christmas break. This has since been confirmed by several more reputable trade publications. The creatives, cast and crew were informed the shutdown was due to “the illness of a key cast member”. There has been no further update on Noel since the initial report, but it is odd to scrap an entire season of a show which is so far along in filming due to a temporary illness.
The series is executive produced by Kenton Allen, Big Talk Studios (multi-BAFTA Award-winning producer of “Rev.,” “The Outlaws,” and “Friday Night Dinner”), Noel Fielding, Victoria Grew, Big Talk Studios (“Back,” “We Are Not Alone”), Anthony Wilcox (“This England”) and Ben Palmer (BAFTA TV Award and Rose d’Or Award-winning “The Inbetweeners” and “The Inbetweeners Movie”), with Naylor and Brittain as co-executive producers.
