‘Line Of Duty’ *May* Be Filming A 7th Season This Year…

by Dave Elliott

Whilst this is not officially confirmed, we had the strongest hint yet that Line Of Duty is looking to shoot a 7th Season in 2025, thanks to one of the cast.

The BBC drama, which came from Jed Mercurio and was made by World Productions, followed the AC-12 police anti-corruption unit, with Martin Compston as D.S. Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure as D.C. Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar as Superintendent Ted Hastings. It last aired in 2021, but ended in a place which didn’t really satisfy an awful lot of the fans…

When we last saw the AC-12 team, Ted had been forcibly retired, Steve was undergoing therapy, Kate’s career was in the balance, and police corruption was still rampant, whilst the power of AC-12 had been massively weakened. It was a real down-note place to end the run. Thankfully, it is looking like we might get a better resolution, thanks to something let slip by Christina Chong (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds), who played DI Nicky Rogerson in the series.

When reporters quizzed her at the Saturn Awards earlier this month about whether she’d heard anything about ‘Line of Duty,’ she revealed that she’d been approached about her availability this year for filming a new season of the drama. “So I have been asked about a season, is it seven?” she commented. “Yeah. Potentially Nicola Rogerson will be back for season seven.”

We do stress that nothing official has been announced by the BBC as yet, but it does seem like they are reaching out to see if they can get the band back together, which can not have been an easy feat due to the popularity of the lead cast. Martin Compston has been busy over at Prime Video with The Rig and has a new thriller series, Fear. due to land next month, not to mention his BBC travel series, ‘Martin Compston’s Norwegian Fling’. Vicky McClure is currently filming a new season of ITV’s ‘Trigger Point’, and also starred in the drama ‘Insomnia’ for Paramount+ last year, along with filming the movie ‘The Last Disturbance of Madeline Hynde’ from Kenneth Branagh. And Adrian Dunbar also moved over to ITV to star in the crime drama Ridley which is set to return later this year for Season 2. Christina Chong herself is currently manning the bridge of the USS Enterprise as La’an Noonien-Singh on the Paramount series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

As we said, nothing official yet, but if you do want to keep track of ‘Line Of Duty‘ or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when the next season gets a UK premiere date.
