Channel 4 has renewed their neuro-diverse crime series ‘Patience‘ for a 2nd Season, with Ella Maisy Purvis returning, joined by Jessica Hynes as new detective Frankie Monroe.
Season one introduced us to Patience Evans (Ella Maisy Purvis – Kind of Spark, Malpractice), who works in the criminal records department of Yorkshire Police, cataloguing and filing the evidence produced during major cases. A young autistic woman, she craves routine and order, relishing the solitude and structure her job provides, but she yearns for more. A brilliant, self-taught criminologist, Patience has an instinctive eye for crime scenes and a passion for problem-solving. She gets that change when Detective Bea Metcalf spots and utilises her talent, which opens a door into a whole new world for Patience.
“The response and popularity of Series 1 was staggering, so I am beyond thrilled to dive back into the world of Patience for a Series 2, especially because we have some brilliant new cases to crack. Buckle up!” said Purvis.
Returning for an extended duration of eight episodes, season two sees Patience continue her work in the police criminal records department of City of York Police after establishing herself as an invaluable member of the team, bringing her unique insight into a series of perplexing cases. However, when a new boss, Detective Frankie Monroe (Jessica Hynes – Spaced, There She Goes, W1A, Miss Austen), brings a very different management style, it proves tricky for them both to navigate. Love is also in the air in this series as Patience begins a relationship with a work colleague, Elliot, and the police department gets a makeover with the arrival of a new PR consultant, all whilst tackling intriguing crimes in extraordinary settings such as York Minster.
“I am thrilled to be joining the cast of Patience as DI Frankie Monroe,” adds Hynes. “I hugely enjoyed the first series as a viewer and looking forward to joining the team for the second series to be in the middle of the action.”
Also in season two, we see the return of regular cast members Nathan Welsh (Trying, Am I Being Unreasonable?) as DS Jake Hunter, Mark Benton (Smoggie Queens, Shakespeare and Hathaway) as Calvin Baxter, Adrian Rawlins (Chernobyl, Living) as Douglas Gilmore, Ali Ariaie (The Great, Doctor Who) as DC Will Akbari, Connor Curren (Dodger, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time) as Billy Thompson, Liza Sadovy (A Real Pain, The Rumour) as Dr. Loretta Parsons and Tom Lewis (Gentleman Jack, Redeeming Love) as Elliot Scott.
“We’re so proud of Patience’s success in the UK and the extended recommission is a real testament to the quality of our cast and talented crew, guided by our outstanding director Maarten Moerkerke,” commented Jo McGrath, Chief Creative Officer at Eagle Eye Drama. “Series 2 promises to be even more action-packed, culminating with a nail-biting hostage storyline and a shocking family revelation for Patience.”
The drama was acquired for Channel 4 by Polly Scates, Head of Acquisitions, and is produced by Eagle Eye Drama (The Couple Next Door, Professor T), which is part of ITV Studios. Maarten Moerkerke (13 Commandments) returns to direct alongside Raf Reyntjens with Executive Producers Jo McGrath, Alison Kee and Walter Iuzzolino.
‘Patience’, which is adapted from the original series Astrid & Raphaëlle produced by JLA Productions for France TV, will be distributed worldwide by Beta Film. Six of the episodes from season two are written by Amy Shindler and Beth Chalmers, with additional episodes written by Rachel Smith and Jacqui Honess-Martin. The series is being produced in association with Happy Duck Films and is supported by the Belgian Tax Shelter. PBS Distribution holds the North American rights.
‘Patience‘ Season 2 does not yet have a premiere date but will air on Channel 4 in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
