The magic is officially underway for HBO’s highly anticipated ‘Harry Potter‘ television series, as the three young stars stepping into the iconic roles of Harry, Hermione, and Ron have now been revealed.
Screen newcomers Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout will take on the roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley in the upcoming HBO Original series, an adaptation of the beloved books by J.K. Rowling.
“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron,” said showrunner and executive producer Francesca Gardiner, and director/executive producer Mark Mylod. “The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”
They join the previously announced cast of John Lithgow (‘Dexter’, The Crown’, ‘The Old Man’) as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu (‘The Lazarus Project’, ‘The Capture’, ‘I May Destroy You’, ‘Gangs of London’) as Severus Snape, Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Into the Badlands) as Hagrid, and Janet McTeer (MobLand, Kaos, Jessica Jones) as Minerva McGonagall.
The series promises a more in-depth, season-by-season retelling of the original novels, with each season expected to cover one book in the saga. It will stream exclusively on HBO Max in territories where available, including new launch markets such as Germany, Italy, and the UK. The original film series will remain available to stream globally.
This new iteration will be written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner (Succession, His Dark Materials), with Mark Mylod (Game of Thrones, The Menu) directing multiple episodes and also serving as executive producer. Additional executive producers include J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, along with David Heyman of Heyday Films, who also produced the original film series.
No premiere date has been confirmed yet, but the wizarding world is officially back in motion — and the next generation of Hogwarts magic is ready to begin.
‘Harry Potter‘ Season 1 does not yet have a premiere date, but will air on HBO Max in the UK, USA and other territories where available. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
