After more than a decade of crime-solving, friendship and heartfelt stories, ‘Grantchester‘ will return for an eleventh and final season on ITV, STV, ITVX and STV Player. The UK is still awaiting Season 10, which is expected to air on ITV in January 2026.
Filming kicks off this month on the concluding chapter of the long-running detective drama, which originally premiered in 2014 and quickly became a fan favourite both in the UK and on MASTERPIECE in the US. This final season promises to bring closure to the journeys of its beloved characters while delivering the show’s signature blend of emotional depth and mystery.
Returning for the swan song are Robson Green (Wire in the Blood) as DI Geordie Keating and Rishi Nair (Hollyoaks) as Reverend Alphy Kottaram. They’re joined once again by Al Weaver (Colette), Tessa Peake-Jones (Only Fools and Horses), Kacey Ainsworth (EastEnders), Oliver Dimsdale (The Suspicions of Mr Whicher), Nick Brimble (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves), Bradley Hall (This Is Going To Hurt), and Melissa Johns (Life).
Series creator and executive producer Daisy Coulam reflected on the show’s legacy, saying:
“At its heart, Grantchester is a show about the power of friendship and love. We’ve been so lucky over the last 11 series to experience that on and off screen… Thank you to everyone who’s been a part of the show in any way, big or small. I’ll miss you terribly.”
Executive producer Emma Kingsman-Lloyd added:
“After eleven incredible series, and the most wonderful experiences with a fantastic cast and crew, we have decided to bid a very fond farewell to our favourite crime fighting duo. Audiences are in for the most ambitious and thrilling series yet. Geordie and Alphy are going out with a bang!”
Set in the summer of 1963, the final season explores identity, forgiveness and personal growth. Alphy delves deeper into his past and wrestles with who he might have been, while developing his connection with Meg, the Bishop’s daughter. Meanwhile, Geordie is enjoying rare peace at home until a surprise offer from the Chief Superintendent threatens to upend everything. It could mean the end of his crime-solving days, and his partnership with Alphy.
Leonard, facing a lull at the halfway house, begins to reflect on his life. A new bond with a neighbour’s son reveals a nurturing side he never knew he had. Across the village, relationships shift and futures are questioned as the residents of Grantchester face life-changing decisions.
Executive producers for the final series include Emma Kingsman-Lloyd, Daisy Coulam, Robson Green, Rishi Nair, Susanne Simpson and Rebecca Eaton. Writers for Season 11 include Daisy Coulam, Richard Cookson, Nessah Muthy and Maya Sondhi, with Rob Evans and Chloe Thomas directing and Dan Kay producing.
Based on The Grantchester Mysteries by James Runcie, the show was originally developed for television by Daisy Coulam. Banijay Rights will handle international distribution.
